If all these samples are going to keep coming out as the album release date approaches, they should just let Andrew post his extended preview/review.

Great samples and long, too. Arnel's vocals sound amazing on Tantra.

I have to say....I am really looking forward to this CD. I've been extremely skeptical of Neal's and Jon's direction and handing of the band. These tunes sound freaking awesome and they do sound Journey-esque.

Most of them do. "Someone" and "Anything is Possible" especially sounds Journeyesque to me. And Don is right, the musicianship is really amazing just from the clips on this album. And Arnel is soaring on this album. I am really impressed from these clips. But "Resonate" is still the song that just grabs me right from the beginning and "Edge of the Moment."

These are some amazing clips (even with the low quality samples), and I think this album is going to kick some serious ass!! I can't wait to hear this thing from front to back. :D

On a few of the songs, I was thinking pre-Escape more than the better known ' 80s Journey sound, which makes me think Neal was the primary contributor on those tunes.

I will say this, the hidden star here is Jon Cain. I've given him grief before but he has not only become a team player this time around but absolutely excels at it and you will find his thumb prints all over this record, just not in an obvious way.

Sounds great to hear Neal driving the song, rather than taking a backseat to the keys and doing a blistering solo. Judging from the clips, "Anything is Possible", "Someone", and "Ritual" all sound like classic Journey. The rest deviate from the usual recipe.

There is no truth to the rumor that Ayn Rand was an influence on the songwriting....

It does, but nobody plays recent Journey except AC channels and this is just a bit too much for them. I wonder if
Journey was still with a major label if they would get played more? I don't think the band really cares whether
they get on the radio anymore. Oh....you said single, not HIT single.

Journey's in the top ten as far as playlists on both Classic Rock and Adult Contemporary radio every year. Any new singles have to compete for air time against their older stuff and that's usually not a winning proposition.

We saw a few years ago what the average Journey fan wanted to hear on the radio. After All these Years hit that chord perfectly for a lot of them.
There is nothing like that on this album, and another reason why I can highly recommend this release.

No it doesn't. Different moods require different music. If you want to drive around with the radio blaring and pretending you're 16 again (which I do, on occasion) Forevermore is great. If you just want to throw down some beers while listening to music, Eclipse is the ticket.

And even that song didn't get a ton of radio play, but I did hear it periodically at the office when they had the radio on. Strangely enough, I never cared for After All These Years, until it really clicked for me like a year later. Now I love the song.

So, what's the reasoning behind Wal-Mart not having samples available? One conspiracy theory I can present is that they are worried that this album sounds so different than Revelation/Legacy Journey that making audio samples available may cause some people to hold back and wait to see/hear more youtube footage of the complete songs before they decide on a purchase.

You may be exactly right Don. It won't appeal to every fan of the band. Indeed after nearly 30 years of following Journey i am even contemplating not even buying the thing. I am one of the fans that WANT the legacy sound. I don't want the heavier direction. They experimented a little with Red13 and Generations and fell flat on their asses, and i can see it happening again. Not impressed with the samples, and the 2 singles are not at all good. A disillusioned fan :(

I guess I don't understand how it doesn't sound like Journey? City of Hope, Someone, Anything is Possible couldn't be anything but Journey - for example. Ditto Walking Away from the Edge, I Can Breathe, Place in Your Heart, Knowing that you love me, Faith in the Heartland, Beyond the Clouds, Never too Late. Conversely - on Revelation- Wildest Dream, What it takes to win, Revelation and What I needed aren't immediately sounding Journey tunes.

Based on the clips, the album overall sounds more like Journey than ROR and TBF did AND STILL don't. ROR went way poppy and machiney and stands the test of time worse than any Journey album since Next. TBF has like 6 too many moody overly dramatic nap snoozers that sound like a new age album more than Journey. I still like these albums and think they are better than average relative to other artists, but just pointing out the stark differences on them.

Finally, Infinity sounded nothing like their first 3 albums, Escape sounded nothing like their first 7 albums...and Frontiers 2nd side was even more experimental than Red13 and Eclipse combined.

I don't mean to be nasty - honest - just I fear some people may be talking themselves out of liking it based on reviews saying its so different. Journey is about being different but still sounding like Journey. I think the legacy sound means a Perry-esque voice. They think got away from that with Augeri at the end and JSS (even though I love JSS with Journey) so thats why in 2007 they found Arnel and made the legacy statement. I don't think Eclipse gets away from it.
