OK...this is not big news, but since I have a tendency to put 2+2 together, a lot of times I come up with 7. Sometimes, it's actually a 4. I don't know, AP shows up in the states 3 weeks ahead of a European tour. Definitely something is going on. We'll See!!!

I doubt it. He is probably just here getting rehearsed up on some of the ROR songs that they haven't played in ages.

Knowing what a big fan Randy is of Perry, I doubt it. Imagine Arnel coming out on stage; people would be like "Who is this, a secret contestant?" The finale is the same week of Eclipse's release. Imagine the new album having to compete with Journey's Greatest Hits, which would probably see a nice bump up the album chart from its usual mid range position.

It's a just a We'll See GB! (unless of course you have inside information). You're an analytics type guy, you explain the timing!!

I'm pretty sure a few of those songs are assigned to Deen already. With shorter setlists because of the three band package and a concerted effort to play at least four songs fronm Eclipse, that doesn't leave much room for ROR songs to suddenly return to the stage.

I can't believe you went for S7's BS!

I know a little while back, Randy made some comments about how he wouldn't mind coming back to Journey if Perry returned, though he didn't think it would happen unless Neal quit. Not exactly a thing you would say regarding a band you would want on the show.
We also know Perry was alreadyn asked to be on the show but declined. That leaves me with the impression that Journey isn't considered legit without Steve, at least according to the people at AI or to be more specific, Randy Jackson.

IDK GB...things just are not adding up right now!! Sounds like Jackson is going to get axed from from the show...ADK if the show continues. You figure out why AP is here in the states!!

No, I'm merely cutting it off at the pass by showing the fallacy in what he was suggesting.

From all accounts, James is going to change up the strucure a little bit, something Journey frowned upon when the guy from X-Factor did it.
Durbin has [supposedly] crafted a "mind-blowing" version of the 1981 classic.

Depending how James does, this could be the moment where Fonzie jumps the shark and crashes into a barrel of flammable liquid which ignites and leaves him scarred for life.

OH OH!! Well it is basically what it is!! That still doesn't explain this timing for AP???

Don't you think they want to rehearse some more of the new songs with Arnel? Did you look at their schedule in the UK, they packed it pretty tight.

Hey, you could be right and Journey could be on the Idol finale For the band to give the Sony Catalog free pub a day after their new album launches doesn't make sense to me.

A 3 week rehearsal, now that absolutely does not make sense coming off the SA tour!!

So maybe it's just Arnel trying to establish a home for himself here in the US?? That just doesn't fit either!

Going on AI and promoting Sony's catalog the week you have a new release doesn't make sense either.

Hey, you could be right and Journey could be on the Idol finale but the show has never let their finale guests openly pimp new releases, especially if it's not on the show's label (they switched to Universal Music this year). For the band to give the Sony Catalog free pub a day after their new album launches doesn't make sense to me.

OK...I'm confused, like I've said before the music business confuses the hell out of me. So DSB is basically Sony and so only Universal Music is allowed for the finale?? btw...is this the finale for AI?

Interscope music handles all the releases for the show, so if James version of DSB is released it would be under their label.
Remember when Kiss did the finale with Lambert, the didn't even get to say one word, did they? Just come out and sing one of their classics and that's it.

Please, don't take anything of what I'm saying as gospel. The music industry is so convoluted right now I could very well be talking nonsense as far my logic of why I don't think this would happen.

OK...just still be a little confused here, In you best educated guess; could Journey appear on the show as an advisor (?) and actually sing new music??

The advisors are usually well known vocalists as it is American Idol, not a group competition. As far as singing new music, I would think not, unless it's a new artist the show wants to promote. Idol's goal is to promote the contestants, not the mentors. Only J-Lo gets to promote new stuff.

I don't watch enough Idol. Anyone out there that can say whether the well known guests get to promote their new music or not?

Not a Wiki guy but this list seems to be accurate as far as I have followed AI:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol_(season_10)#Results_show_performances

Top 3 - special guest is TBA and Iggy Pop also came out, so hope is not lost yet for Journey

Steven Tyler spilled the beans on Leno last week, saying that AEROSMITH will be performing on the Idol finale.

It would definitely be interesting to see Journey appear on Idol and certainly a great way to kick off promotion for Eclipse.

I think Gaga and Stevie Nicks are scheduled to appear also.

Current artists, possibly. David Cook promoted a new single a few weeks ago...of course he came from American Idol, so that probably doesn't count. Classic artist such as Journey, probably not.

Just watched....ummmm I don't think you will see Neal on AI.

James wore the TAILS....and Randy said he paid homage to the One of the BEST voices in Rock....Steve Perry.

James did it justice! Good on him!

The comments coming in are 50/50, some alluding to this song being over done already and on the other side, Glee fans are giving James a bit of a bashing for his rendition.
God, is the Glee cover now the definitive version of the song?

Could this be the straw that finally break's this song's back?
