Frontpage now. New soundclips...

Had a listen many of the clips. For some reason Tantra just doesn't do it for me and just feels to me to be too cringe inducing for it even grow on me. Kinda strikes me like All I Needed from Revelation and I didn't care much for that song either. Maybe because the song doesn't flow very smoothly or something.

On the other hand, I'm digging Edge of the Moment, Chain of Love, Resonate, and Anything is Possible. Two weeks....

Wow, really? Tantra sounds great to me, and What I needed is one of the best from Revelation, especially live where it is simply epic!

Andrew, these clips are so good, we won't need to buy the album now! Seriously, there is a lot to love about this album and not much to gripe about. It's going to be a huge success. Thank God it won't be good enough for radio.

^ Yeah, I'm loving what I hear of 'Tantra' and 'What I Needed' was my favorite song off of Revelation. I suppose both are ballads, but they definitely have more of a rock opera-ish feel to them than a sappy love song feel like 'Faithfully' or 'Open Arms'.

Best samples so far, but i am still very unconvinced by this release.
Does seem to have its plus moments though and 'Resonate' certainly seems to be a good one. Liked it the first time i heard it. 'Chain of love' is another one that appeals to me. However, stuff like 'Edge of the moment' goes completely nowhere, and i read someone somewhere class it as the new Separate ways. Absolutely laughable. 'Human feel'? the less i say about that the better.
I shall buy it as its Journey and i need to hear the new release before i see them next month, but whether it will take pride alongside all the other Journey releases in my home, or go the same route as Generations did, (straight in the garbage bin) remains to be seen.

I dunno; I didn't care much for 'Edge of the Moment' when I first heard the live samples, but I'm really liking the album samples of it. 'Human Feel' seems to be the weakest song on the album IMO. 'City of Hope' isn't a masterpiece, but it's the one I listen to the most between the two singles.

Your loss. Generations represented the band at its lowest- and even it had some very valid stuff on it. Eclipse is Neal literally taking the reigns and actually caring about the end product, and it shows. Every one of these clips sounds like Journey bringing their A-game. No comparison to Generations. Loving the details in the clips. Chain of Love sounds enormous.

These clips validate my initial thoughts of the live clips Rip posted awhile back.

There were a couple of moments that had me wanting to hear more, but just a couple.

A couple of the songs sound like they wrote them during a 72 hour binge of watching Animal Planet and Planet Earth.

I wanna like them, just not happening.

Tracks 4 - 6 are pretty good. The rest isn't anything too exciting. I don't really hear a very good flow in the lyrics. Seems like in some songs, the verses are an after thought. Musically, it is a rockin' album as promised. I hear a lot of Red 13 on this album, which is a good thing in my opinion. If I compared this to W.E.T., W.E.T. would win out. No fillers on that album at all.

No real surprise that people either love it or hate it, which was expected. Sounds pretty good to me with a combination of the more pop songs and a few that give the album some depth. Still not sold on Ritual, and didn't like it any better the first time around when it was titled Wildest Dream. At the moment, Eclipse looks to slide in somewhere near the best of Arrival (if you cut it down to about the same number of tracks), which would put it in decidedly the upper half of Journey albums.

At the rate it's going, I'd put Eclipse ahead of WET. I thought Damage is Done and Put Your Money... were both fillers on that one, and Just Go wasn't much better. There was some really good stuff on that album if you could get through some pedestrian chorus lyrics in places.

While I love this album over all because of it's abundance of harder edged tunes, I have to say that Message Of Love, Castles Burning and even Tame The Lion rival anything on Eclipse as far as hard rock goes, there's just more of it here. To me Chain Of love is the big rocker for this album.

As far as this whole Tantra thing goes, I get what they were trying to do but it's not exactly knocking me over. Journey is Journey, not Rush, or Yes or The Moody Blues. That's just the way it is.

I would also like to say something about a comment Andrew made in one of his earlier previews, something along the lines of that they could never have made this album with Steve Perry. Change never could have to never would have and I can live with that argument but really, there is nothing here that Perry would have struggled with except the concept of not having a balance of ballads on this record. We all know that is what Steve's idea of what Journey was to the masses (ballad bombers). There is no When You Love A Woman here, and under Perry, that would have never happened so yes, in that sense, this album would never have been done with Perry.

The only thing keeping Human Feel out of my bottom three in place of COH is the drums. The lyrics and everything else in that song are atrocious but the beat manages to keeps me hooked somehow.

That's not going to change when you hear the complete album. I think it's more of Neal getting his way over Jonathan that causes a bit of that but it doesn't kill the record, at least not for me anyway.

And I hear that through these clips. It just sounds to me like they're just stumbling through the verses to get to what they spent most of their time and energy on lyrically-wise...which are the choruses. To me, great songs have both great verses that are just as interesting as the choruses.

I respect the fact that Greg and RWF gave it a chance. That's all you can ask for. Kudos, guys.

Same here, as I'm definitely more on the rock side of things. Like you, I think the A/C pop fandom (which is probably the vast majority) will have some issues with this album. I'm somewhat surprised that there isn't your typical Journey pop power-ballad on the album, but I'm not really bothered by it either. I think something like To Whom It May Concern is a far better song than Open Arms, but OA has by far the greater potential at pop radio.

Still think Anything is Possible is the best option for a single. Sounds like Journey, generally uptempo, pop, and your "don't stop believin'-ish" message.

I never got songs stuck in my head with Revelation. This album is far from forgettable
and I do feel some of the songs stick with you.

Maybe the final product will be brilliant, but right now I'm rather stunned and quite disappointed. Not one song grabbed me in the slightest. I have a feeling I'm going to be as disappointed with this one as I was with Hole in the Sun. We shall see.

Yep, as I suspected, "Edge of the Moment" is something that I'll have blasting with the windows going down the highway at unsafe speeds...goddamn I love this song

Its no loss at all to me if i think its shit once i've heard it. Why's it my loss? And imo hardly ANY of these clips sound like the band Journey, and certainly NOT Journey 'bringing their A-game'.
As i said earlier, at the moment i am very unconvinced by it. I liked Journey the way they were with big hooks, powerful harmonies and huge choruses and these 3 major factors that made Journey as great as they were seem to be sadly lacking here.
