Live Concert Recordings...

Will Journey ever offer their concerts for sale right after show like several other artists??

Just thinking that would be a great idea for fans and another revenue stream for the band. :)

Doesn't matter if it's from a live recording, If you sell it, it'll be like any other CD or DVD in that royalties will have to be paid. Since Journey has a lot of songs in their setlist, written by people no longer in the band, I would think the accounting required might not be worth the effort. If the play Higher Place one night, then you have to factor in Blades and Augeri as ones getting paid from that show's media sales, if the next night they break into Livin' To Do, then Tribble has to be paid. And we know Perry would have to be in the books for EVERY show.

When you distribute a recording of a song somebody else wrote, whether it’s for commercial use (making it for sale) or promotional use (giving it away for free), you are still required to obtain a compulsory license and pay royalties.

Many bands do this. Some that have vastly different setlists each night and contain cover songs. If these bands are able to do this than Journey would have no problem doing the accounting.

In my opinion this does not interest me from Journey. They play a pretty static setlist on each tour. I like to get these when artists play different setlists every night making each show unique. For a band like Journey it makes more sense to record and release the material as a live album at the end of the tour.

Under Wal-Mart's umbrella, I would think a live album would be the next release from Journey. They can do another three disc package like Def Leppard is with the DVD thrown in also. The only troubling thing might be that they have completely ditched the Revelation songs so far this tour. Any new live album would only be enticing if it had a bit of everything from all the album's post Perry, not just some Eclipse songs and the Dirty Dozen again.

I believe the key to a successful and conscientious band is keeping what the audience wants to hear a top priority. That said, you don't need to forsake artistic endeavors. If Journey plans an 18-20 song set, I believe the hits should number 8-10 and sprinkle the rest with post-Perry cuts or deeper tracks from all eras. Neal has forgotten that there are other songs besides "Stone In Love" and "Keep On Runnin'" that rock (in fact, many songs rock harder) and would let him escape from the Perry years.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'
