Not a Good Sign

Postby JourneyHard » Sun May 22, 2011 12:18 pm

It is not a good sign when I went to two Wal-Marts here and they don't have any publicity for Eclipse anywhere. They have posters for Brad Paisley's new CD coming out on Tuesday, but there's nothing for Journey. This is total bull. The guy at the counter in the music department said that a vendor stocks the shelves. Is this true?

For the last Journey CD Revelation, they didn't have it on the Tuesday release date. I had to go back the next day and then it still wasn't out. They had them in a box at the counter. I thought the vendor put it out! I am thinking that vendor thing is a lie.

I am not worried. I will get Eclipse one way or another before too long.

:?

Same here. I was at one of my local Wally-Worlds this morning looking for some stuff for my garden. I thought I'd swing by the music dept. to admire what would surely be a massive display of coming attractions with Journey prominently featured...Nada  ...Zilch  ...bupkis  . Vendor is true - Anderson handles it. Quite often the standard Wal-Mart cashiers are not familiar with what Anderson does, or where they keep their stock.

Someone associated with the band re-iterated again that there will be promo on the 24th and Revelation, the Manila DVD and Eclipse will all be part of it. A little risky though as Eclipse might have it's sales cannibalized by the other two which will look like steals compared to what you are getting for the price of the new release.

Looking at some of the pictures of how they've got Eclipse all scattered about on the endcaps and in the aisles, I'm really starting to wonder though.

Yeah and the way they packaged Eclipse in a cardboard sleeve is terrible. Hope the release doesn't get overlooked from first impressions. Does anyone know if they plan on doing any audio promotion at all in store?

I don't think that will keep many if any folks from buying it....But I'm with you, I could have used a little more in the packaging dept.

Yeah with 2 discs in both Rev and the DVD set, and both in the same price range as Eclipse, not to mention the GH attached to both of those, I wonder too what that would do. But who knows. This "exclusive" stuff doesn't seem the best sometimes, with employees having no clue, some not even having it out on or even after release date (I remember people complaining about that with Rev), having a hard time finding it, etc. I don't know about anyone else but I miss the days of being able to just go get an album at a record store, any record store, and it would BE there, and the employees at least had knowledge about the albums too.

Nice. That's what I get for posting in the AM after drinking a lot Friday night, a little last night, and no coffee yet this morning.

The packaging is not that bad for everyday use but I love to have a better one for my collection. Journey should offer one at their store. I won't mind paying more.

The possible promo for Tuesday. With the Manila DVD playing in the backround, wonder which album benefits more, Eclipe or Revelation? If the albums are anywhere near each other in the display area, we know which one will look like the better deal, that's for sure. Might want to keep the older release hidden for a few days so people intent on making only one purchase don't necessarily take sales away from Eclipse by grabbing the three disc package instead.
