If no one else will say it, I will. This latest cd just doesn't sound right. Sure, they are good mudicians. Sure thy can "rock" but it just sounds like they are trying to be Journey 2.0. I am not the only one here who thinks this. Red13Joepa also says the same thing This "new sound" or "rock harde" idea to me at least, just doen't fill the expected criteria. The ballads are missing. The mid tempos are are missing sorely. To me, it is the NSB2.
I know I will receive a shitload of flack for this take, but it is a solid effort, but MO WAY is it as good as some of you here say and damned sure ain't as good as McNeice has graded it. In all honestly, attaching "Journey" to this album is like tring to stick a LP into a cd case. it just doesn't fit.
Flame away.

How much more growing can they do? 3/4 of em are pickin up their pensions pretty darned soon. Make no mistake, this is it for the band Journey. Eclipse is their last hoorahh, apart from maybe a live album/dvd.

Everyone who has heard this CD so far (I burned 10 CD's already for people who aren't the hardcore Journey fan) and they liked the new era of sound but yet, still having the same solo's and piano work that makes it distinct as Journey. Heavier guitars and a moodier rock-direction is the only thing that they tried different.
I think it's an awesome album, totally not spoon-fed and the same-'ol, same 'ol that they've been putting out for their life's existence. I hope they stick to this as they continue to grow and adapt as a band. Not everyone needs to LOVE it, to each their own..but how can't other Journey fans feel the same?

I LOVE guitars but they have to really elevate the song as well as the listener.
Too often I hear a lot of over processed- over pasteurized guitar noodling going on in the mix when all I’d be satisfied to hear is a fat @ss outro/coda solo like from “Who’s crying now” or “Stone in love”.

Have to agree with this. Sure I'm biased and my opinion is unpopular, but they're my ears. Yesterday, I listened full through to Eclipse then full through to What If... and IMO one sounds like a bonafide HARDROCK band and the other sounds like they're trying to be. And for me there is no standouts on it like Undertow or I Get The Feeling on this one. I've listened to it a few times now and gave it a chance, but this is one that will probably just be shelved now. Saying that, I DO love Neal's playing on this album and Arnel sounds real good too.....but there is just something missing in his vocals for me. LOL I guess it's true, once you go Gilbert/Sheehan it's hard to go back.

I think Mr Big is a hard rock band, without "trying to sound like one!" I know this is a Journey forum, but no need to bash other bands, Mr Big may not be a good as great as Journey, but they aren't bad and have some talented musicians!

Not sure what taking-the-nickel means? But hey, everybody's got opinions, that's mine.
