Journey's Entire Catalog in 25 Hours

Postby JRNYMAN » Wed Jun 01, 2011 2:29 am

I had the rare opportunity to listen to damn near the entire catalog back-to-back and virtually without interruption a week or so ago. My wife's sister got transferred to Springfield, IL and I was asked/volunteered to drive her moving truck full of her shit from here in PHX to her new place. Knowing I was going to have a lot of personal audio time just for me, I decided to load up the MP3 player with the entire catalog (with the exception of repeats, Time3, etc.). I had already resigned myself to the fact that I would be listening to it via earbuds and that was okay. However, when I picked up the truck from the rental place I was ecstatic to find that I had gotten a brand new truck which surprisingly had a fairly kickass stereo installed AND had an input jack for iPods, etc. I was stoked!

The trip took just over 25 hours which gave me the chance to listen to complete albums at high volume, sometimes listening to a song twice or backing up to hear a certain part multiple times to appreciate various nuances, harmonies, instrumentals, etc. I have to admit, some of the deeper cuts I hadn't heard in quite some time. It was a nice treat. Perhaps the single biggest discovery/revelation - if I wasn't already aware of it - was the drastic, discernible change in SP's voice between Escape and Frontiers. Another nice thing was reminiscing and remembering just how much I liked particular songs at various times over the decades.

Forgive me for a moment while I act like a freakin' girl.....
One of the coolest moments during my little audio vacation was on the morning of the second day. It was just about sun-up and I had just reached St. Louis and could barely make out the arch when Good Morning Girl played. That was very freakin' cool for some reason.

I also re-discovered how incredibly good TBF is. There are some songs on that album that I feel are masterpieces - and I don't use that word lightly.

Just wanted to share my little slice of Journey heaven. Probably won't get that kind of "me" time again for a long time.

I did kind of the same thing last fall when I drove my daughter to Virginia. I plugged my ipod in the stereo in her car, and her stereo took over the ipod. A Ford emblem was displayed on the screen of the ipod and some voice from her stereo, after a minute or two came on and said. "Some items could not be indexed, the titles those songs and albums will have to be entered manually." I was like  Anyway, those were other songs on that ipod, and I had put the whole discography of studio albums in a play list and played that. I couldn't crank it up because she kept turning it back down because she wanted to talk. But it played from Infinity to Revelation on that trip. I think my daughter was Journey'd out!

....While listening to everything but Journey as I converse here.
Besides, I'm getting paid while I surf so this place is as good as any to hang my hat.

Your timeline is messed up just a tiny bit. Everything looks good and makes sense until you the last title you listed. The Party's Over was the "previously unreleased" track they included on Captured but there was no concert video released with Captured, only the live CD nor did they ever shoot a separate video for TPO. What does this all mean.......? It looks like your little shindig is going to shut down a bit earlier than you thought. :P

Ssorry Steveo.... I honestly couldn't help myself. If I have any punishment coming as a result of that disgusting display of smartassedness, let the assault ensue!
