What song to request?

I don't know what song to request off this album at radio and what radio station to request it to! If City of Hope is the single - and do we really know if it is the single? What the heck radio station plays that?
The only hope for airplay would be an AC or one of those Adult Top 40 Stations, but there is nothing on this album that fits there at all. Maybe they should edit down Tantra or Someone or even She's A Mystery?
Tom Petty from "Into the Great White Open" - "The A & R man says I don't hear a single...."
This album is going to stiff big time because there is nothing on it remotely close to being able to garner airplay on any type of radio station. At least on Revelation, you had 3-4 songs that could get some airplay on AC/Adult Top 40 stations. This has nothing...nada....
If anyone has any thoughts on what song we should request and to what type of station, I am all ears.

"Someone" has hit written all over it. Not on the "Delilah" stations, but on rock radio, it could do well. Same with "Resonate" and "Ritual". Any of those are certainly better than Bon Jovi's last "hit" which was embarrassingly bad.
"Anything is Possible" would work well for a middle of the road A/C station. Same with "To Whom it May Concern".
Speaking of hits, CeeLo Green's tune sold buttloads without radio.
Also, the C R A P P Y album that the Eagles did a few years ago through WalMart sold huge. NEVER heard a song from it on the radio.

Live 365~Opera Elegance~the metropolitan opera channel on sirius/xm satellite radio would welcome Tantra ...
I'd love to see She's a Mystery get some airplay
that would just be a regular classics station!!

yes, better to roll out "don't stop believing" one more time...
For God's sake, don't challenge a Journey fan. They only like one thing.

IDK, I just don't get Tantra. You can chop it up, Ginsu it & edit it anyway you like, and I still can's see that fitting anywhere except maybe the Disney radio channel.
I really like EOTM. Sounds like a radio hit to me!

From what I understand, I'm not so sure that radio stations receive the entire album of every musical act that releases something new. Seems to me like I remember hearing about radio stations receiving certain singles that they may or may not play on air. IF this is the case, then the only single that they would be receiving would be City of Hope. I could be very wrong about this and I do know we've had radio djs on these forums in the past, so maybe they could set me straight on how that works, but I believe that is more likely of a single if anything from the new album would to make it to Radio.
Now, it's quite possible that some of it could be heard on satellite radio? One of the specialty stations?

You gotta wonder too- how many Walmart-only acts do they play on radio? It's a funky deal, but apparently the only deal in town if you want to create music you want to create rather than what a label dictates. Radio is not going to pick up music from 30 year old artists unless there is undeniable pressure on them either from a record company or a listening base.

The singles are selected by the label and then sent out to the stations, the stations have the choice of either playing them or not, it 's not mandatory like in the days when payola money said 'you will play this'.

So the DJ's don't accept cocaine/hookers anymore as bribes?!? ...because I thought that might be
a good last minute promotion idea!

WOw. I liked it. Not every song, but still a very good album.

man, I tried. I thought it was completely faceless. Music is subjective for sure, but yeah, there was just no fire on it at all for me.

How Long got tons of play on terrestrial and satellite radio. Also heard Busy Being Fabulous on both mediums quite a lot. Finally, Waiting in the Weeds, I Don't Want to hear Anymore, and What Do I Do With My Heart got a lot of satellite burn.
Long Road out of Eden was a solid effort. Definitely way better than the shitstain that was Revelation.

Agree. That Eagles album was very good. The specifically said they didn't want or need to rush something out and took their time. They didn't want to put out an inferior product just to have an album out there. Good advice.

Neal said they weren't making it for radio, so I doubt they think they're going to get a lot of play on the radio. But I still say Resonate, Anything is Possible, and add to it Edge of the Moment and Someone. They're all catchy. Chain of Love is fantastic but I guess too heavy for most of the stations that play Journey.

If they don't care about record sales anymore why do people think they would care about singles?

Who said they didn't care about sales? No artist puts out an album not wanting sales. But Neal said he realized they can't get radio play even if they try to write a very commerical song. I think Eclipse has a few commercial songs on there, anyway, just not the ones they picked. Even if they put the songs I think are extremely commercial out as singles, I doubt as a 30 plus year old band they're going to get much air play.
Madonna had a 13 million selling album, multi platinum in the States, but they just don't play her newer music because she's an "older" pop artist. Though, other countries still seem to appreciate her on radio.

Actually there were 2 songs off that Eagles album that garnered some pretty significant airplay - "How Long" and "Busy Being Fabulous"

Have people here just gone stupid? If they were going to try to get a single to radio, it would have been done weeks ago. There is no radio single from Eclipse. There will not be any airplay. COH was the closest thing to a single they had...and people here excused its non-airplay by saying it was released over-seas and not in the US. That was the closest thing to a single this album had.

You actually make very little sense. COH was not the closest thing to a single they had, it was a single. One of two. They don't need an excuse for no radio play, because there is no radio format for new music of this style and genre, and classic stations don't play new music from classic acts. Unless some hip hopper samples some of Eclipse and makes a song of it, I would not expect to hear anything new of Journey on the radio unless the made an AC friendly song like on Revelation. They did that last time and had big sales and some radio play. You weren't happy then either.

They released some singles off Revelation and got some radio play but never much play or traction on it, and back then it was posted all the time here: Journey will never have a big hit again. The radio stations never play Journey music except the heyday classics, not new music, so give up.
Maybe they chose no single for the U.S. because they feel it's futile.

Anything is Possible should have been one of the singles. That is a great tune that has grown a lot on me. It's got the big Journey chorus, and its not too heavy for AC radio as a midtempo soft rocker. The song has a nice positive vibe too.

Hard to forget what you never knew! Either of those two songs are good singles that AC might touch and sound about as Journey as Journey ever has.

Good grief. Even I can't love that song.
