Deano already mentioned this kinda....I think the only way the NFL takes Journey is with the originals.....they do this right and they are all over the music news again.....I never bought into Journey at the Super Bowl...but I can kinda see it now.....Black Eyed Peas were atrocious...the table is set.....

Is it really that big? I thought most people turn off the half time show. I can't watch it. Horribly cheesy and embarrassing stuff. Come to think of it, that may be the reason they would let Journey do it. I hope they never do.

Yes, it reallly is that big. Only 15 minutes of actual airtime but around three months of having your band's name out there in the media is a wonderful trade off.

Sure, for publicity, but Journey is already maligned as "cheesy" so how can rolling in that cheese fest not also hurt?

Journey was cool last year. They were also on vacation though.

Journey is the textbook casual fan band...Super Bowl is the textbook casual fan sporting event...IF they could pull this off....could be mind boggling.....

It will never happen. Journey is never again going to the super bowl with any lineup. Stop the hyper bowl.

Why on Earth would Perry sign on to come sweep up the now obliterated stone and try to glue it back together? It makes no sense. Perry was right. Niel should have left the name alone and made Eclipse to his hearts desire. Neil doesn't care about selling records anyway. Why attach the Journey name to it? Go screw around for awhile and maybe come back to Journey at some later date.

If Journey was like that "big Harley" in the garage Cain talked about, that's like asking Perry to rebuild it after it's been wrapped around a light pole.

That was just sick dude! I just got back from a strip club and what I saw wrapped around poles was definitely not Harleys.

Since I am totally in the Iowa cornfields on this...AP sings SW and Open Arms....DSB piano starts....Arnel disappears and Steve comes out and sings it....nobody is talking about the game on Monday....believe me....

Too bad Perry can't sing anymore. It would end up being like the Who a couple years ago.

Why would Journey OR the NFL want a ragged old fool who can't sing anymore like Perry TRY to sing the power-house's he did in the 80's? I love Perry, we ALL do, he was the voice that brought us so many legendary songs that is our favorite band but why bring him in and potentially EMBARRASS the band judging how the man wasn't seen or heard from since 1996 when JRNY already got someone in there who is 20X more capable and fresh? People think Perry could step into an 1986 setting in 2011-2012 and do nothing but astounding things but don't think on how BAD it could really be. That's why Perry never came back, he knows he can't sing and it'll ruin his legacy and mark in history.

Perry didn't/hasn't come back because his voice would crack the stone on his own legacy. He is toast in every sense. Journey's catalog breaks singers and Steve is broken. We all wish it weren't so, but at some point, after all these years, some people need to accept the truth.

With that, we can try to enjoy the new music when it comes, the tours when they're in our neighborhoods... because if that doesn't work for you, it's time for you to pick up your life and move on. Sheesh, some of the unhinged vitriol in some of these threads is beyond belief. High school all over again, imho...

Even if they did this, the performance would likely be disappointing. They'd likely have to drop the songs at least two whole steps and they just wouldn't sound the same.

Don't remind me of the Who. Perry won't sing live because he doesn't want to, unless it's a sing-along with thousands of fans where you can't hear him. And he would sound great on a solo CD, I'm sure, with all the takes and pro-tools to aid in his quest for perfection, because he still has the soulful delivery, and he doesn't even do an album after writing for it and recording some, I guess.

As opposed to 104,000 three years prior.

But wait, the 104,000 was BEFORE they became popular again.

Become popular, lose 80% of your sales. Brilliant.

Nope.

Perry had his chance. He had many chances. He wasted many years that Journey could've been doing something. These were years that he was "Toast"... while he was recording his own stuff.

If Perry wants to go out and do the World Series with a band. Great. But they can't even get him to sing The National Anthem.

In the meantime, Journey has a singer who is putting the time in and doing the work. HE deserves the big gigs. Not Steve Perry. Sorry, Perry WAS the "Great One" in Journey, but Steve Perry has moved on and has done nothing to earn a spot at a huge gig with this band in 15 years. It's like calling Mohamed Ali in to fight the current Heavy Weight Championship. Simply because he was amazing once. If Arnel quits the band, fine. Call Steve Perry. But to say "Hey Arnel, thanks for helping us resurrect our career that Steve Perry threw away. Now we want you to take a back seat so we can bring him up to sing for our big gig at the Superbowl" would be crap.

Morally and ethically .... yes...

BUT... NFL Productions agrees to pay $5 Million plus for a Perry-fronted Journey versus "no Perry - no way"... my money is on Cain and Schon telling Nelly "sorry dude"...

hell, Nelly would tell them to do it before they had to say anything..

As a one-off, 'Nel might not mind stepping aside for Perry.
He's just that nice a person.

Of course it's never going to happen, because Perry 'no wanna sing wif Journey no mo'.
