The band has been in your part of the world for a couple days already, I'm sure they'll be well rehearsed,
not just flying in at the last minute and playing the gig. AP has had some rest and should be on his game.
I'll bet the band will sound tight and you're in for a real treat. I'd love to be there! :D

Last time they played Birmingham was in 2007 with Soto and they did NOT go down well at all. Mind you the set they played was'nt right.
Been to many many shows there and never heard a crowd so quiet and withdrawn, just hoping that this time round they take the roof off.
Different venue this time round and bigger too, around 12k i believe for this show.
I know its gonna be a great show, especially with Foreigner and Styx too. Journey are playing for 90mins, Foreigner 1hr and Styx 45mins. Can't wait.
:D

They weren't interviewed for very long.
Which is just as well. The presenters on BBC Breakfast are very square and of course they focused on Glee and Arnel's discovery on YouTube.
Neal, Jonathan and Arnel were on the show.

They showed a live clip of DSB and a snippet of City of Hope.

The interviewer did have a little dig at them for not touring the UK in the past and Jonathan very diplomatically said he & Neal had always been keen to come here but 'other members' hadn't wanted to come.

And we all know who he was referring to don't we Mr Perry?

They also gave a big thankyou to the UK fan club for never stopping believing.

Yeah it was pretty cool to see them on UK TV though susie.

Loved the huge Eclipse poster thing on the wall. That looked really cool.

One thing i did notice is WTF has happened to Neal's face. He looks more like Jack Nickelson's Joker every time i see him. He looks absolutely dreadful. My better half said ''a bit of Michael Jackson going on there, his face looks like its about to fall apart''.

Anyway's as i said it was great to see them on UK TV which is quite the rarity.

Yeah, he definitely had his morning face on. Maybe he's not an early riser.

Roll on DSB.

There just is something about Birmingham LG arena that doesnt seem work as a rock venue. I saw Rush there 2 weeks ago, Great concert, crowd wasnt that lively at all.
Same thing with other concerts ive seen there , Motley Crue and KISS - a bit better but still not as lively as it should be, and I actually saw one person sound asleep at an Eric Clapton concert there.

Is there any statement or something that justify that Perry didn't want to tour to Europe back in the day? It seems crazy not wanting to earn big time cash while being no1 in the 80s..Perry is supposed to have had a lot of 'sensitivities' but i don't think we would be that crazy not wanting to go there....what if it was a management decision/policy or what ...?

Before Cain came on board, they did limited tours of Europe twice with Perry but with so many gigs in the States and Japan I don't really blame SP. They were averaging 110 shows a year already.

Even with out Journey touring the UK though, the catalog still charted.

Frontiers reached #6
ROR #22
Escape #32

These weren't hit and run appearances either. ROR and Frontiers were both on the charts for 8 weeks and Escape for 16 weeks. It's not like they weren't selling albums or making money off of European consumers.

And then of course with the resurgence of DSB, you had the Greatest hits hit the chart last year at #12.
With Arnel touring you had Revelation at #68 and Eclipse possibly at #19.

Just a note, when Journey did tour there with Perry pre -Escape, Evolution did manage to chart for one week at #100.

In reality, the Japanese market blew away the European one at that time, and Journey simply went where the big money was.

I am pretty sure that i once read somewhere that it was in fact Perry that didn't want to play the UK, as Cain hinted in the bbc interview, but i also recall one of the reasons was the IRA stuff that was very common over here in those days.

That make sense for sure, but in that case Cain's statement is rather cheap, specially when he cannot really receive any response...

In interviews with Steve P that I have read on the net -the main concern Steve had was punk.
He believed that all British music fans were into that and after the few UK gigs they did here late 70s early 80 he didn't think Journey had enough of a fan base to make it worthwhile.

Of course we had no internet back then to make our feelings known.

And yes it was great to see them live on British tv after all these years.

Also Foreigner played on "This Morning" later that day too.

We never got such tv appearances from them back in the day.

But I guess better late than never.
