What It Takes To Win

Aside from the cheesy lyrics, the music in this song is pretty awesome. That really fast strumming guitar riff is great, and is pretty original by Journey standards. I don't think Neal has done anything like it before? The solo is fantastic too.

I don't hate this song. I did at first, due to lyrics being cliche and some stupid like, "when you're born to lose, you know what it takes to win" which makes no sense! However, sonically it's very interesting and has a nice moody feel to it, and even a little feed back from Neal snuck onto the recording. Arnel sounds cool and gritty, and the guitar playing is great. Now I don't skip it but I just don't focus on the lyric when it comes on.

I agree, it's a shame the lyrics don't measure up to the music. For a long time, my 6-yr old would ask to hear that song every time we got in the car. He didn't really understand what made the lyrics like Gouda, but really dug the music.
