Simple- GH. Essential is a double disc with a lot of shit filler on it. If you are down with Eyes of a Woman, then by all means buy Essential(if you can even find it).

IMHO, you're better off getting the 3 disc packages many stores have now. I saw a Infinity/Evolution/Departure package as well as an Escape/Frontiers package. Whatever you do, do NOT buy GH Live. The absolute worst live record ever "produced."

I wouldn't wish GH live on anyone's ears. Pure shit, as far as sound goes.

Perry's intro to LTS alone was worth the price of that disc. :D "You promised to love me..."

In my opinion the Journey Essential package was a HUGE missed opportunity for Journey. It moved a lot of copies, but it is essentially the greatest hits with "When You Love a Woman" added and then a second disc. For the many casual fans that bought it, the second disc never gets played because they simply do not know the songs by title and are looking for the big ones.

They need to start from scratch and build up. There was some very questionable material placed on the second disc "Eyes of a Woman" and "Baby I'm a Leaving You" coupled with leaving Feeling that Way off.

Grab 30 tracks and make two 15 track discs with all original versions, no live stuff and mix the Greatest Hits with the really good album tracks and you could have introduced fans to the deeper material and therefore had more flexibility in your live set.

Non Greatest Hits tracks would be:
Stone In Love
Feeling that Way
Anytime
Patiently
Just the Same Way
Walks Like a Lady
Party's Over
Escape
Still They Ride
Stone In Love
Mother Father
Chain Reaction
After the Fall
Suzanne
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever
Message of Love

IMHO, the best Journey Compilation is The Journey Continues

1. Lights
2. Wheel In The Sky
3. Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'
4. Too Late
5. Any Way You Want It
6. Don't Stop Believin'
7. Who's Crying Now
8. Open Arms
9. Separate Ways [Worlds Apart]
10. Send Her My Love
11. After The Fall
12. Faithfully
13. Girl Can't Help It
14. Be Good To Yourself
15. I'll Be Alright Without You
16. When You Love A Woman
17. Remember Me
18. All The Way

Followed closely by The Ballade

I think you are too cruel to GH live , you cannot put it to the same shit group with generations and red 13, c'mon :) After all it lists all the hits; i don't think the sound is bad at all

I'm not getting the lack of love for GH Live. Maybe it's just the listening environment I hear it in isn't audiophile, but I think it's (mostly) great. WTF with the fireworks track?

it was meant to be heard by all!! Move away from the computer, get in your car, roll down the
windows and rock...you don't even have to think about what these songs are about,
they just are what they are~ Give the pea~ brain a rest!!!

You could probably pick up the individual CDs off of amazon or half.com pretty cheap. Then you could make your own compilation.

I agree, I waver between liking LTS and not, but the version on GH Live is by far my favorite... because of the intro with Perry and Neal playing back and forth.
