Good start but last Wednesday it was predicted to chart at #14. That's a hell of a three day drop. Did they run out of stock?

A lot better than Revelation did but so far, a lower position than Escape, Frontiers, ROR, and The Greatest Hits on their UK chart runs.

Now to see if the concerts this week elevate its position or not.

I dont think Eclipse even charted on the Japan billboard charts. Havent been able to find any debut positions for Germany, Switzerland, or Norway either.

Yeah, what is up with Japan? Even Arrival and Generations managed to chart over there. Revelation onward has been an issue though.
I thought all the hoopla surrounding Journey having an Asian front man would give some type of boost to the sales in that country but apparently not.

Sales wise, Amazon Japan shows the CD currently ranked #293 and the mp3 album at #1,209.

Not including the U.S., Japan is the largest music market in the world by far. For Journey, the loss of these consumers is significant.

Im not sure what Journey did to loose their Japanese audience, but no albums have charted in the top 100 since generations 2005 release. I wonder if they do not like the new direction and the addition of Arnel Pineda. Its just really weird that for years they were strong supporters of Journey even with Augeri, but within the last 5-6 years there's no interest.

I have quite a few friends in Japan, it's not like they stopped buying music. Even if that industry slowed down, their top 100 albums would still be there, just with lower numbers. That also wouldn't account for Revelation's non sales anyway.

Not true, I know of one band who brought alot of smiles and tears right in the midst of it all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJxNtk5UfRM Love the end of that, such a feel good piece, seeing the happiness music can bring, out of tragedy.

Their album sales and shows sold VERY well. One of very few bands that didn't cancel and actually toured over there right after the devastatiion, still aftershocks going on.

So far it looks like Eclipse managed to only chart in 4 countries compared to Revelation that charted in 8 countries.

Countries that Revelation charted in, but Eclipse did not:

Germany- This was a surprise to me, especially since it was in the top 10 rock itunes chart for 4-5 days and Journey's last 4 albums have charted their.
Switzerland- I believe Revelation charted #89, but Eclipse no where to be found.
Norway- Still awaiting an updated chart list. Doesnt look like it charted here either though. Revelation came in at #97.
Mexico- Awaiting chart list.

At this pace they outta change the title to "Implode"

Good news, Eclipse debuts at #18 on Japan's Billboard. Second week sales don't look hot but at least Journey's back on the chart for the first time in 6 years.

If Eclipse can stay in the Top 40 in both UK and Japan for at least a month, it might mitigate some of the blow from weak sales here in the U.S.

I don't see them having the Billboard longevity of Mr. Big in Japan but any kind of chart run would help.

Eclipse also debuts on Austrian charts #56. This is the first album to chart there of Journey's.

Really, the only country (outside the U.S.) where Journey owned the charts and had long life was in Japan. I believe with all the compilations and what not they account for something like 20 million + Journey album sales. Of course, it helped that a lot of CDs could be churned out right there in Country anytime they wanted to. With the lots of T.V. appearances, Columbia filming promo at shows right there in Japan, Journey was at times bigger than a lot of home grown Japanese acts back in the early 80s.

Eclipse has entered the German charts at #14, the highest chart position of any Journey album.

Well, Neal did seem to be looking at turning Journey into the new Mr. Big (as far as overseas markets were concerned). We'll see how things shake out in a few weeks time.

Yes, they are. I think that is partially responsible for the numbers change from 17k to 21k in the first week. Along with iTunes sales we went from one distributor to three without anyone knowing about it.
I don't think that will be the case this week though. As far as a digital album, Eclipse is dead without promotion.

Wech said he didn't even know if it was available there beyond the black market bootlegs which were selling for around the equivalent of one U.S. dollar.

There aren't the type of songs on here that will appeal to those fans generally. The local entertainers were covering AATY a month after Revelation was released. This time around, no news broadcasts, no hoopla, nothing. With Charice getting on Glee and the little girl with Gaga, the Arnel train sort of left the station, especially with no karaoke friendly ballads on Eclipse, the most popular music genre in the Philippines.

AATY, TDTWT, Open Arms and Faithfully are what helped sell Revelation. Remember all the publicity with the kid covering Faithfully on some Idol show and all the Open Arms duets. That isn't happening here.

Are you surprised? When David Foster called Arnel on stage to sing a Peter Cetera song, some lady out in the audience kept yelling "faithfully".

Eclipse, which debuted at #33 last week appears to have fallen out of the UK Top 40.

So much for the concerts stimulating sales. Charging double price for the CD didn't help.
