Eclipse analized to death?

I remember the fan club of old where we loved the music, loved the band, and were loyal fans. I am I guess taken back sometimes at the venom supposed "fans" have towards the band these days. The over analysis of every note and syllable of each song cracks me up to no end.
Is it me or have we become as a whole a society of armchair quarterbacks, and feel we have to make sure every band meets a measure that few could ever obtain?
Are we so critical that we forget the joy of the music, and the whole thing about being a fan in the first place?
I am not saying you cannot disagree with the band, but whatever happened to the original fans of Journey? I am telling you back in the day, this was not how it was at all. Anyone else feel this way sometimes?

Yep. I definitely feel like there are a few folks around who hope Journey fails and choose to spend large quantities of their time either gloating when they do or spinning that they are when they aren't.

I can imagine that if "Escape" had never been released until now, it'd probably get all kinds of bad reviews and critiques from fans as well.

I think everyone here, for the most part, still loves Journey. The things that are posted here, controversial & argumentative things, are just posted for shock and
controversy for something to do. I'll bet most don't even mean what they post, but do so just to ruffle feathers of the different factions. Journey, being the most
popular band on these forums is just the butt of many jokes to pass the time.

I think pretty much everyone means what they post, except for people who like to argue simply for the sake of arguing, ala Monker.

It seems as though Ginger is a bit too familiar with the erotic lingo though. Analized? That's some nasty shit judging by the picture.

Obviously, this place isn't an official fansite. Here at MR, It's always been a love hate relationship with Journey and Styx and Foreigner and Survival, etc. MR is for the type of people that do want to analyze everything as well as the over zealous followers of the band where as the official sites are very specifically JUST for people who would like to to fawn over the bands.
MR has actually tamed down quite a bit from years past. How could anyone be surprised by what goes on here? It's open viewing to non-members. People can see exactly what they are getting into before they join. Nothing is hidden. If you had to join first before seeing the forums is one thing but here you can read everything before you become a member.
You'll get a lot more of the truth here, that's for sure. No fake sales numbers or chart positions or attendance numbers that seem to pervade the official sites.

I've read the comments on both Amazon and Walmart from people who actually bought and listened to the album.
The negative reviews are the minority. Even some of those have something good to say about some of the songs.
There are people here who would have you to believe that Eclipse has failed on all fronts and dat's not true.
For me it's a very good album if you throw out a couple songs. One common thing I read is that this album
does not grab people at first. It takes time, but then most love it. Reviews that diss this album off hand seem
to echo that they want 1981's Journey again.

People that like a product are more likely to review than those who don't like it, especially if there is no great monetary lost involved with a bad product. When people don't like things, they generally don't take time document why they don't like it, where as when you like something, of course you want other people to like it too and will gladly share your opinion of said product.
What I am saying is, out of 30,000 albums sold, 50 good reviews to 20 bad reviews doesn't tell you much. 1,000 good/bad reviews out of 30,000 purchases definitely gives you a better sampling rate to gauge a product.

But the reviews you read on Amazon and Walmart are mainly from diehard fans. A true unbiased review would come from casual fans

If it makes you like Eclipse more everytime you read a great review, thats awesome. But keep in mind, not everyone agrees with all the overrated(or underrated) reviews and at the end of the day this CD is not the masterpiece you and Drewsky claim it to be

No matter how much its reviewed, analyzed, argued about, at the end of the day the only opinion that matters to me is mine. Anyone's opinion of this cd should really only matter to him/her.
At the end of the day, I got what I wanted from Eclipse...Top of the charts or bottom does not really matter to me. Do I want it to do well? Sure. Even if I didn't like it, I'd still want it to do well for Journey's sake and for those who do like/love it.
I still play it a lot, and still love what I love about it.
Of course the back and forth arguing is needed I guess since that's what forums are for...For everyone's opinions to all mesh together and start all kinds of shit!

If it's a masterpiece to us that's all that matters. I make no apologies.

LOL...just stating my views. I really don't care if people reply or not. The bottom line is that I'm just shocked people had such high hopes for this CD...unrealistic hopes. Then it fails worse then even I imagined...yet some want to prop it up as some kind success story. Just too funny how some don't want to deal with reality.
Also, the above is why I haven't commented too much on the music of Eclipse. It's a good CD...much, much better then Revelation. But, it has its flaws too. I just don't feel like harping on it so much.

Love Journey, fav band.
But I dont get those who love everything Journey does, no matter what.
Every album has a song i dont care for, some even more.
Even Perry, my all time favorite singer, I dont like everything he does.
Eclipse is good, but its no classic album. It did not live up to the 100% hype.

Our favorite bands only put out new records every few years or so, if we're lucky. Of course we're going to overanalyze everything.

Parfait, glad you saw the play on words, I meant what I said. I mean analize. Some people get very anal about it. So no, it wasn't analyze. Really it is not about not loving every song, but as I said, the pure almost hatred for a band that some claim to love? LOL!
I mean more nasty comments about Jon than I care to mention, and I meet the guy and he is probably one of the nicest persons I have ever met. Neal was really nice to me. Dean Castronova was nice to me. So I just don't get the whole dogging the band and everything they have done.
Now have they always been fair in their dealings? I don't know, I wasn't there, and I guess you have to have been there to know. But they are human beings and some treat them like gods that have to be above human nature.
No one can be as perfect all the time as some expect them to be 24/7. I don't wear blinders, but I guarantee I have a better idea about how hard it is to get up on a stage and have your voice, guitars, and everything go perfectly every night live. It isn't possible.
Your going to mess up, your going to be flat sometimes, and have sore throats sometimes, and just not be on top of your game all the time.
I don't expect everyone to love all the songs, I don't. But comparing every album to their best album as though they have to do better every time is a bit much. If they don't put out albums you would still gripe. Catch 22 every time. That is what I am saying.
I am just curious how many original Journey Force members are here. It was a wonderful era.

Monker, I wish you'd make up your friggin' mind, honestly. You've come across lately with alot of negativity towards the band and you certainly have made it known that you're not pleased with ECLIPSE. To be quite frank, I think some of Journey's older fans are too stuck in the past and are not interested in progressive new Journey music. I for one, am NOT in that category. I happen to think Eclipse is a solid effort and their best post Perry album to date.

Considering I enjoy listening to the likes of Rush, Dream Theater, and early Queensryche (which is much more proggy than they are now), having Journey veer into prog territory is not a bad way to go. God bless them for wanting to experiment some. More than I can say for some of these other bands that don't bother writing new material and just sit on their catalog for the rest of their lives

I think I can speak for most people on here when I say we'd love to read an in-depth review of Eclipse from you.
And I still don't think in the current market Eclipse is a bomb anymore than Arrival was.
