Which member's album is best?

Postby Tito » Thu Jun 23, 2011 7:29 am

As we all know, Eclipse is Neal's album, Perry's is Raised on Radio, and Cain's is Escape. Which of three member's album do you think is best? I say Cain's Escape. What does everyone else think.

Why Escape is Cain's?

Cain's "Piano With A View" is better than those three combined

Why Escape is Cain's?

It was his first album with the band, his songwriting marked a significant change in the dynamic of the songs, and it was that presence that brought it to #1.

Damn dude.
ROR is no match for either Eclipse or Escape, but Perry's vocals save it from being that bad.

MG, this isn't Fan Asylum. If you'd like for us to transform into sycophants and cultists who masturbate routinely to Steve Perry's pictures, all you need do is head down a forum below.

Otherwise, like Don says, it's time for you to lube up.

You know, in all honesty, this was also my initial reaction! But, after I thought about it, the album is such a departure from their sound prior to Jon's arrival, and the album's 3 biggest hits have his formula written all over them. Who's Cryin' Now, Open Arms and DSB all have the keys intro, Jon Cain formulaic pace and tear inducing lyrics. It's really hard to argue that he wasn't the chief architect of this album, especially when you listen to the albums prior to it. But I wouldn't say his influence on it was as much as Schon's with Eclipse or Perry's with ROR.

First. Then who's album was Frontiers? Arrival? TBF? Generations? Revelation? (All with Friga in the band).

With the three you list:
1 Escape (I would not call it Cain's album - team effort)
2 Eclipse (I would not call it Schon's album - smaller team effort)
3 ROR (Perry's album only because he produced, dictated the musical direction, and for all the other crap that went down)

Escape and ROR tie.
Eclipse.

For the morons bashing ROR, I heard IBAWY and GCHI on the radio today. Let's see if they're playing anything from Eclipse on the radio in 2036.

Oh, that's right, they're not playing anything from Eclipse on the radio right-fucking now.

ROR is a pop/rock masterpiece. The slickest Journey ever got.

And Neal said he was never playing that "gay ass song" again (GCHI). I wonder if he's still cashing the checks that are coming in when it's played? He won't be cashing checks from anything off of Eclipse for very long, or at all, as far as radio play.

Well said. Eclipse has already faded into obscurity. Can't wait for the show. I'm debating whether or not to intentionally leave our seats for the concourse when Neil plays anything off the turd.

Generations was Augeri's.

Frontiers and TBF were the group's. As well as Arrival and Revelation.

Don't give a rat's ass whether you take me seriously or not. I heard You Better Wait on the radio a lot more than you'll ever hear friggin' Tantra  And that was at the height of grunge, the worst music movement ever.

20 years from now, Journey from 1998-2011 will be completely forgotten and only the classic lineup will be thought of as epic and classic Journey. Escape, Frontiers and ROR will still being played on adult oriented melodic radio. Eclipse will be out of print.

Eclipse
Escape

ROR

I could probably swap Eclipse and Escape a few times depending on my mood...Right now it's Eclipse.

And I don't care how many hits or songs on the radio ROR had....That doesn't mean it's a great "legendary" Journey album.

Generations and ROR get swapped back and forth depending on which day I hate one more than the other.

Never said he was the driver (that would be Herbie). All of Journey's albums have been team efforts with the possible exception of ROR. I explained why some might consider this to be his album, though:

Gideon wrote:It was his first album with the band, his songwriting marked a significant change in the dynamic of the songs, and it was that presence that brought it to #1.

That line is funny.

Though, I would put ROR way way ahead of Generations, but I rarely listen to ROR. Sad because Perry sounded amazing on the album, but the datedness just makes me forget about it and/or cringe in places, even though there are some great songs on there. I should just create my own album from it and then I would listen to it more than once a year. I probably won't. Its time has come and gone for me. Once a year is enough.

Wrong. It kills Eclipse. Not even in the same league. Only The Young is 1,000,000 better than anything on Eclipse.
