Higher Place vs. Resonate

Postby Gideon » Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:53 am

Which is the better song?
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Higher Place. Resonate's a very cool song, but Higher Place is up there with the Journey classics for me. More upbeat but has an edge. Resonate has an edge too, but is darker. Better guitar from Neal on HP as well.

This one's pretty tough for me, both are competing for my favorite post-Perry song.

Well I choose Resonate.

I chose it on the basis that anything Pineda has done vocally, it's always been better Augeri, and anything Perry has had done vocally has and always will be better than them both. Neal & Cain have always been great, but lately haven't done anything new in my books, as for the current drumer and that bass player, the same can be said. Since Perry left, Journey have been rock solid, it's been more of a walk for them, as opposed to a climb (pre Augeri).

Higher Place without question. Higher Place IMO is one of the top 5 post Perry songs. Resonate IMO is an alright song, but nothing really stand out about it.

This is about the songs not the singer.

There are a lot of songs weaker than Higher Place in the Perry era repertoire.

I understand that the singing performance is something important, but you can't just say that a song is better because the singer is better. There are a lot of beautifully sang weak songs on For the Love Of Strange Medecine. Higher Place beat most of them. The singer isn't everything.

Higher Place is a great Journey song beautifully done by the band, but Resonate I just really love and have from the get-go on every level. Resonate wins for me.

I don't think anything on Eclipse compares to the Blades/Schon rockers on Arrival, HP especially. And I like Eclipse alot. But the Blades contributions remain the best songs of the post-Perry era.

I will be listening to both of them a lot today so hopefully I'll have my answer. Very close call.

As has been said, very close call to make. I would say they are both equally good tunes, just different in style. For the poll I went with HP probably because I have lived with it longer. Both very good tunes though.

So which song did you pick? You're being a little vague here.

edit: that was sarcasm btw

I'm thinking it's probably a straight line from the back door to the porch to the refrigerator in the back yard, stocked with beer and ice.

I've decided that 'Resonate' gets the tip from me, but it's very damn close. :)

Both are incredible songs, but really it comes down to personal preference.

IMO at least 'Higher Place' is the better Journey song, while 'Resonate' is just the better song in general.

So yeah, vote goes to 'Resonate'!

That's a tough one for me. I like both songs. Higher Place has great energy, but so does Resonate, and I've never heard another song feature that word.
