Speaking of Eclipse....better late than never.

I was in Wal-Mart over the weekend and they just put up card board advertisements in the music section...Must have been put up within the past week. It's not much, but it's the first in-store "advertisement" display I've seen (in my wal-mart anyway) since it's release.

Maybe Wal-Mart is actually starting to do something to see a return on their investment.

I think they're thinking, "What the hell are we going to do with all of these?"

Eclipse fell overnight from #21 to #24 on Wal-Mart's best seller list. There are five albums ahead of it that were released in 2010. It's become obvious that Eclipse and cardboard don't go well together.

I spotted the album cover on the side of a cardboard display of cds a couple of weeks ago. Lady Gag-er's cover image was much more prominent --on the front--with what I assume isn't even a Walmart exclusive release.

Maybe the plan all along was promo starting just-so-many-days before the US tour. They knew it wouldn't move more than Gaga or Paisley, so why waste the cash.

With the US leg of the tour less than two weeks off, if they're going to make a push for this album, they'd damn well better get cracking.
Bubble gum wouldn't have saved the Titanic either.

Looks like Columbia's promo is working just fine. Got the Greatest hits back to the top 20 a few weeks ago and gets Escape back on the chart this week.

Just tape that shitty Eclipse card board sleeve to every copy of the Greatest Hits and Escape and you've got a winner. Has Neal thought about getting some advice from Herbie yet or has that train already left the station?

Didn't HH say that NS calls him all the time to run stuff by? I think he said he doesn't want to do it full time any more, but they all still talk.

Eclipse goes from #36 yesterday to #2 on Wal-Mart's in house chart. The Manila DVD is at #10. Looks like some promo finally happened today or last night. With luck, this thing will reach 100,000 total sales sometime in August. A price cut on iTunes might help might help. It certainly did for The GH Package.
Still, a long way to go to even catch up to Arrival's first year numbers.

Being realistic, last week's holiday weekend would have been the time to roll out additional promo.

I wondered what Herbie was doing in the Walmart parking lot with that pimp suit on.

If this album can get to 200,000 sales, it would be a coup after it's atrocious start. Those would still be somewhat disappointing numbers but a lot better than where it sits now.
It still hasn't reached Revelation's FIRST WEEK sales totals yet.

Maybe they finally put it, Revelation and The Manila DVD together in their own display, hence the surge in the DVD 's sales as well. Better late than never I guess. If it slips tomorrow, I'll have to rethink that but as I don't live near a Ghetto-Mart, I'm not going be walking into one anytime soon to find out.

I've been in a Walmart 4 times in the last 3 years. Guess what for. I hate that place. English is a secondary language in our store here.
People in there don't control their kids....little shits are running around bumping into people and aisles smell like shitty diapers.

There's one in the Crenshaw district on the border with Inglewood. A two story building that used to be Robinsons-May back in the Day. When you see a dude walking out of there with box of Magnum Condoms and a Dr. Dolitte DVD, you know it's skank.

Speak of....

This morning I heard a radio promo for the upcoming Journey show here in the middle. Not just the "Big Voice Guy" tauting the upcoming show with all the hits (likely sung by Perry) blaring in the background, but also announcing "Journey's new record, Eclipse, on sale NOW!". I was elated!...and I felt a little weird about that. Nevertheless. It really is BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!

Doesn't necessarily mean that this album is selling more, no?
Could mean that all other album sales are in decline.

As Def Leppard jumped to #4 itdid occur to me that the AI EPs might be out of stock. We'll see after a few days.

Eclipse is a very fine effort.

If you like it = that is all that matters.

EXACTLY! Would be nice if more people knew about it though and there are definitely a couple of potential 'radio friendly' hit singles on this disc! I know the band is trying to push City Of Hope (radio edit version), but I also think Someone is a great tune. I hope they play it live on their NBC Today Show concert appearance on the 29th. So far it hasn't been on their setlists in Europe.

they made radio friendly!?!

I heard a concert ad on Jack FM this morning for the show in Irvine. No mention of the words Eclipse or New CD. Played snippets of DSB and WITS (Both Perry voiced), Sister Christian and Hot Blooded.
It comes off as Greatest Hits tour all the way.

No, it was one of those "Hits from the 80's, 90's & Today" type stations, and it was in the early morning hours of their 80's Weekend Shuffle programming (meaning canned programming), so they wouldn't dare.

An addendum to my little Journey moment though: I went in to work today & overheard a couple of my co-workers discussing Journey. One woman said she had just heard the promo for the upcoming Journey show, and was shocked, shocked to learn they had a new record out. The two of them wondered if the new record was just another Greatest Hits package, or if this was new music. Well, needless to say, the Journey geek deep down in my soul came crashing to the forefront & I blurted out everything I knew about the situation (even though I wasn't a party to this conversation, and nobody asked me). Anywho, long story short, upon learning the new Journey CD was all new music, my co-worker was delighted, and ended the conversation by saying she was headed to Wal*Mart right after work to pick up the new CD. :D

Perhaps there's still some hope.

Not only is this disingenuous, I wonder if it isn't a little fraudulent... Wonder if people could be buying tickets thinking they're getting SP fronting the band if they're still using his vocals to promote it? I recall specifically having conversations with women in the bathroom in Clearwater, FL in 2007 discussing the fact that they weren't aware that SP wasn't singing before they got there. The night before the show we heard radio promos of the concert with SP vocals. Also, wasn't one of the reasons for re-recording the greatest hits so they could promote themselves without using SP's voice?
