My guess is this is Arnel's farewell tour with Journey! Thoughts?

I've kind of felt that way myself, based on the length of the tour.

If that is the case, then I think that would mean it is Journey's farewell tour also. Can't see them bringing in yet another vocalist, unless it is someone who is already a rockstar, and a big name one at that.

I don't see any indication this would be the case. This is a very typical Journey post-album release tour. They will hit the world and big sheds this summer, head over to Japan in February and hit smaller markets and casinos next year and maybe Europe again. Seems pretty normal for them.

Arnel has said he will be with Journey as long as they want him. They will tour this year, next year, and take 2013 off and tour in 2014 - imo.

I don't think they'll skip a year touring again. 2010 Was a monster when it came to publicity for the band and they blew it by being absent. How do you go from people saying your name every day To no one knowing you have a new album out six months later?

Neal said in a recent interview that he can't imagine Journey going on without Arnel.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

He has said that about about most of the Journey singers, the exception is Robert Fleischman. Neal has ZERO loyalty except to his wallet.

I'm not a Neal hater so please don't think that, but look at his track record and that speaks for itself.

I'm aware of Neal recycling the "real deal" mantra with Augeri, Soto, and Pineda, but I've never heard him say that any of them is irreplaceable until Arnel came along.

cinkidd wrote:Neal has ZERO loyalty except to his wallet.

Given his many casual divorces, I'm not sure that's the case.

Neal's track record indicates the man likes money, but I'd say his defining trait is passion. On the one hand, he's the most dedicated artist in the Journey line-up. He loves to play and perform and explore new facets of his musical capabilities. On the other hand, that passion manifests in clouded judgment and impulsive action and reaction.

Still, I said it years ago that I'm not sure they could afford to lose Arnel at this point and Neal seems to agree.

Ha yes ok then... They just played some of the biggest arenas in England... (yes I know it was a triple bill but from being there it was obvious most were they mainly for journey)

I'm not a hater either...just to set the record straight...yes, indeed, Neal said in an interview back in '05, SA "is Journey's last lead singer." Don't ask me to look it up...SA fans will attest to this.

When JSS was hired, he was called "the real deal." Not taking anything away from AP...I do believe he could very well be their last lead singer. I mean, how many years do these guys have left to perform?

Let's analyze the facts, shall we? He waited from 1987 to 1998 for a singer that played a grand total of, drum roll please ... zero shows! In that time, he saw Perry tour with others, disbanded a lineup with no contractual guarantee that there would be a tour and even went so far as to agree that Perry be allowed to get paid when they signed Augeri. Yeah, 11 years of non-production and allowing a shameless cock sucker to sit at home and earn as much on the couch as these guys did busting their asses on the road sounds like a guy whose only loyalty is "to his wallet."

Then there's Augeri. The guy was on fumes as early as 2002, but Neal kept him on board. He slowly went downhill, culminating with the advent of less than live vocal shows. That fiasco is a forum of its own, so I'll stop there. But Neal stood by Augeri's side and maintained his services because he had a connection with the fans and was the guy that fronted the Journey machine for a number of very good years. Again, switching gears and getting a bigger "name" in about 2002 (or 1998, for that matter) would have probably yielded a few more dollars in his pocket.

Ross Valory- People here have been bitching and moaning that Ross has been sliding downhill for the better part of 20 years, yet he's still in the band. Getting a bassist from another band, either a younger band or a proven veteran like jack Blades, would probably put a decent amount of extra butts in seats. Yet Ross is still the guy.

Deen Castronovo- It's been leaked on here that Deen has had more than a few instances over the years where he's battled demons. There's a few stories out there, but they need not be repeated. At any rate, Deen has been by Neal's side for 20+ years and Jon for over 30.

In conclusion, I think it's pretty obvious that, if anything, Neal has been loyal to a fault. Personally, I think he's just a guy that wants to write, record and play, and if you're willing to do your job, keep in-house business close to the vest and perform, you've got a job for life. And you can't ask for much more than that.
