If you ABSOLUTELY have to release a radio single, you edit AIP and sing it on the Today Show (in the correct key). You don't lead off with it either, you wait until Pineda's pipes have a little warm up and then you roll right into it.

Yeah, I think it's a great song. I don't understand where people don't hear it as anything but a top notch, very Journeyesque, feel good song.

Unfortunately, the song doesn't really go anywhere after that. Cool ending solo by Neal, but the chorus is weak, weak, weak.

I dunno. I'm just not feeling City of Hope. The instrumental part of it is great. Lyrically, it's challenged. The lyrics are so corny and so hokey, I just can't get passed it.

It's not an uplifting anthem, it's just corny. And couple that with the video? It doesn't make me feel hopeful. It makes me feel like there should be an 800 number scrolling across the bottom of the screen, like I need to be sending a couple of dollars to somebody somewhere. Maybe for just .62 cents a day, I really can make a difference in somebody's life (but I doubt it).

Well, JOURNEY and FOREIGNER made a most successful pass from Europe, so there was no chance for us to miss the opportunity to get soaked in this vintage US Hard Rock even though these bands are not in their prime. And looking at the audience inside FMBA one could easily understand that there is little young blood (especially in the US) that is fond of this emotional and 100% groovy music.

The weather was good to us as compared to the DEF LEPPARD concert two days before and hence that Saturday evening was very promising. Arriving at the venue 15 minutes before the announced starting time, we found out that NIGHT RANGER were already onstage and there we were running to get inside in order to catch most of their set. The ticket price was higher than that in the DEF LEPPARD concert (we had to pay $20 more for the same two seats), so looking at a decent amount of empty sport was kind of expected. But on the back, the lawn was packed with families and friends making the attendance touching the number of 25,000 (rough estimation).

The story about how JOURNEY were resurrected by the arrival of the gifted singer Arnel Pineda is pretty much known to everybody. The US band got back in business with "Revelation" and returned on the stages playing all around the world. Fortunately for everyone, JOURNEY did not stop there and this year released the pretty good "Ecl1ps3" although I was not that touched by the result, since I could not find more than two songs to remember. Nevertheless, FMBA was looking packed, especially in the back, when the lights went out and the band stepped on stage playing something like an intro with lots of nice riffs. The sound and the light show were great making everyone clap and scream. I was pretty much caught off guard by the audience's response but after a second thought I concluded this was expected since my debut experience with JOURNEY was in Europe. And it is way different watching a band performing in their home country. During the last tours JOURNEY do not make changes in the setlist and having "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" as the opening song was totally expected. Pineda showed up nailing the vocal parts with his crystal clear voice, impressing me one more time with his hair raising close-to-the-original performance. Also, I think he has gained more confidence sharing the stage with the Hard Rock veterans, getting additional attention with his moves and most energetic attitude. To a certain extent Pineda’s onstage energy creates an antithesis with the rest of the band that looks pretty stationary and, if you take Neal Schon out of the equation, I would dare to say indifferent. Is it just the years or is it just the lack of interest... who knows?

"Ask The Lonely" came with no pause and the singing-along continued with additional power. “We have a new album out and this is the opening track” said Pineda and "City Of Hope" followed. To my surprise almost everyone sat down just like they were disappointed. It seems that the old (on average) audience had just come for the JOURNEY hits and nothing more. Personally, I consider "City Of Hope" a very good song with great guitar leads, so I enjoyed it to the maximum. Damn, it sounded better than the studio version! The band got the same reaction with the guitar driven "Edge Of The Moment" that I enjoyed even more. The opening guitar lead is simply amazing while the vocal melodies are to die for! But, this is just me talking...

Then, it was about time to slow things down and "Lights" was the best way to do this. Night photos of city lights were projected in the video walls on the back and there I was getting a little bit emotional since I have connected this track with Chicago. Fortunately for me and my almost sweet emotions time "Wheel In The Sky" made my heart explode along with the main and killer melody while I was blew away during to the extended guitar solo! Most of the audience have watched JOURNEY many times before and consequently the singing-along was the icing on the cake, giving the band the power that I believe was missing from the first part of their set. Indeed, for the following four tracks the concert was the way it should have been from the very beginning. There was power coming from the stage and was bouncing on the dedicated crowd that knew all the lyrics from the trademark JOURNEY.

It was time to get emotional again (...those heart-broken tracks...) with the ultimate hit "Faithfully" where once again Pineda’s performance highlighted his enormous contribution to JOURNEY’s resurrection (if only the rest of them followed his lead). Maybe using the term ultimate hit was too much since during "Don't Stop Believin'" the venue was filled with the voices of everyone singing the mood lifting and inspiring lyrics. The tiny pieces of paper filled the air as the band was throwing the last notes of the song, marking the end of their regular set. Once again I watched many people leaving the venue in order to avoid the traffic that usually comes after such crowded concerts, missing the chance to watch the upcoming encore that - of course - featured "Any Way You Want It" and the party was still in high tides and then... it was the end of the show. Come on, only 12 tracks from a band that is more than 3 decades old? I am sad to say that I had a stale taste in my mouth while I was leaving the venue. Although JOURNEY performed flawlessly, their set they did two major mistakes (according to my mentality of course): 1. The setlist was ridiculously predictable and there was no track from the previous album and 2. the short duration of the set that did not justified the label of headliners.

So, that nice Saturday night we got a hearty serve of good old US Hard Rock while FOREIGNER must be acknowledged as the winners in the unofficial fight with JOURNEY. They brought more in the table forgetting about the years that have passed hitting hard the gas pedal, delivering their music with the power and energy that JOURNEY have forgotten.

Well lets be realistic...they are playing with two other bands and most venues have to be empty by eleven. Don't expect an "Evening With" type of setlist. I bet you're going to get 12-15 songs.

Nah, I expect around 17 or 18, which is what they've been doing. They haven't been playing 15 songs; I saw 'em in 2008 w/ Cheap Trick and 2009 w/ Heart and they played much longer sets.
