Headed up to the gig tonight. Would like to provide a full review but I have a case of Labatt that may prevent that from happening. We will see what happens tomorrow. Stay posted.

Funny story ... I was with a co-worker about 4-5 months ago and we were going to visit a few suppliers in Ohio. We spent 2 nights at a hotel that I thought looked awfully familiar. I asked how far the Blossom Music Center was and it seemed about the 10 or so miles away that we were. It was the hotel we stayed at, no doubt. But I did notice that the bar was closed down. My guess is that one weekend of all of us was something they just couldn't chance happening ever again.  I didn't notice it the first time, but that hotel has a great pool, hot tub and indoor water slide! :)

That's so funny! And I didn't even see a pool, let alone a water slide! That's too bad about the bar! It was the perfect set up for us!! It's hard to find a hotel that has a bar open late when you venue is in the middle of cow town!! I'm pretty sure we found it thanks to Stu if I remember right!

Outside chance I may come to the Burgh to see some of you. Not going to the show or anything, but hope I can make it for whatever party you all do.

Not only would it of been a challenge to stop them, it was hard to do practically anything when I was doing my best impersonation of Randall McMurphy from One Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest. I was purely in a vegetable state by that point. The only thing I can remember is the opening to Never Walk Away. That will forever be etched in my brain waves. 8)

I shudder to think what would have gone down if we had know about that water slide in our altered state.   There would have been jail time involved for sure. That's okay, though.......Dan has experience in that area!

Well as Dan has hinted Journey was... underwhelming. I'll leave it at that for tonight. Full review to come in the morning. Night Ranger and Foreigner are the REAL DEAL, though. Kelly Hansen was every bit as good as advertised.

I still thought that Journey put on the best show of the 3 bands, tonight.

And Foreigner and Night Ranger do rank in my top 5.

I'll leave it to Matt to give a full review. But here are a few details....

I was disappointed that Journey only played 2 songs from Eclipse. At least they were 2 of the ones that I would most want to hear.

I don't remember the exact order that they played the songs, but here's the song list for the show...

Lights
Wheel In The Sky
Any Way You Want It
Don't Stop Believin'
Stone In Love
Open Arms
Separate Ways
Send Her My Love
Faithfully
Only The Young
Ask The Lonely
Be Good To Yourself
City Of Hope
Edge Of The Moment

I would have liked for them to have also played "Chain Of Love" and either "Human Feel" or "Resonate."

Of course, Neal played a guitar solo, and Jonathan played a piano solo.

It would have been nice if Deen had sung at least one song tonight.

I still think that Journey were the best band of the night, as much as I love Foreigner and Night Ranger.

Kelly Hansen is a great front-man for Foreigner!

Hey, you been a borderlined fan for awhile. If you wanna hate them, you can. This is America.
Some of the worst YouTube performances I could find were played tonight in my house. My visiting
daughter thought they were great.. everyone has their own ears.

Yeah. Other than a few of the things that I mentioned in my above posts, I didn't find much fault with Journey's performance tonight. The band were on, as always. Arnel sounded great. Neal kicked ass as always. All around good performance.
I just wish they had played a couple more from Eclipse, and that Deen would have sung one of the Perry-Journey songs.

According to you, anyone who doesnt love and worship the band , every album they release and every show they play , are considered "borderlined fans". It's safe to say most of us here are borderlined fans then. ;)

No its not. This is a music message board , founded and moderated by a wombat from down under ;) Get it right dickbag.

Thanks to Bill (Jrny/Survivor) for posting the set list. I might as well start there: what a horrendous setlist. Not one deep cut in there for dedicated fans (ok, Send Her My Love is a borderline deep cut) and two of the worst songs off of Eclipse. Why they are playing those two when they could be playing AIP, Resonate, Chain of Love, and/or Someone is beyond me. People had no idea what the hell was going on when they went into that horrendous Edge of the Moment chorus.

Second, the mix problems continue. It took them half of Separate Ways to get the canned harmony vocals going on Separate Ways. Moreover, Neal's guitar was muddier than shit last night. You could barely hear the City of Hope riff, half the time the first part of his solos would be inaudible or severely muted, and things just didn't sound crisp. This aspect really stood out, considering Foreigner and Night Ranger both sounded solid mix-wise.

Third, the band honestly sounded rough. This was the most disappointing aspect of the night for me. They just weren't tight at all. I heard several Deen miscues, Neal fucked up his rhythm parts a couple times, Ross was inaudible, and Cain even started playing the beginning of BGTYS instead of Don't Stop Believin at one point, even though they had already played BGTYS. This part really stunned me and disappointed me, much more so than Arnel. I'll address him now.

Finally, and here's where all the sycophantic Journey cockriders will dismiss my review, Arnel just sucks. He's just not good. The guy still has absolutely no sense of how to sing, phrase, and enunciate things. I took my sister and my girlfriend, two much less critical fans, and they both said things to that effect to me on our way out before I influenced them at all. I kept my mouth shut because I wanted to hear what they honestly thought.

So many times, he'd draw phrases or words out in an attempt to make the song his own, only to run roughshod over the next line or phrase. That forced him to spew out a key phrase awkwardly in warp speed, all over the wrong chord change. One of the worst examples of this was in Faithfully, when he drew out the line "ANd being apart ain't easy on this love affair" way too long, forcing him to squeeze the entire "two strnagers learn to fall in love again" line in to a very small space. It sounded awkward.

At bottom, Arnel just isn't good. Several people left 3 or 4 songs early (although they did have a huge crowd at Blossom), and I think that mainly reflected on Arnel. You couldn't understand any of the words he was singing, and it wasn't because of the reason I expected: his diction. It was simply because his singing techniques muddle the words. The jumping around and air guitar shit couldn't save him in a million years. After watching seasoned frontmen like Jack Blades, Kelly Hansen, and even Kelly Keagy, the contrast was stark and unflattering for Arnel.

A Foreigner and Night Ranger double bill would be great. Those two bands were fantastic. No time to review them, sorry. But suffice to say, they are truly killing it out there. I don't believe REO and Styx beat Journey on the Main Event tour in 03. This time, however, these two bands are anal fucking Journey til they bleed from their eyes. They're that much better.
