Journey gets a Billboard trifecta

Not quite the jump that the iTunes $6.99 special did for the Greatest Hits on Father's Day but the three albums managed to move a few copies this week.
The Greatest Hits comes in at #53 with over 7,000 albums sold. Eclipse cranks out over 4,200 copies to raise its life time RIAA total to 70,000.
At #168, Escape churns out another 2,900 discs in its quest for Diamond.
Note: It did not crack the 200 but Captured does re-enter the catalog chart at #49 this week.

WOULD LOVE TO SEE CAPTURED re-released and ADD A DVD WITH IT... my favorite era of Joruney...

Great info, Don. However, my guess is that Escape surpassed 10 million copies, aka Diamond status, long ago. Sony/Columbia just won't certify it.

I believe you're right. From what I have gathered, the Essential Journey package has reached 2X Platinum also but as you said Sony doesn't seem interested in getting anything beyond DSB Certified.
One thing I've wondered about is why Nomota hasn't gotten the Manila DVD audited yet. That thing reached Platinum over a year ago. Of course, looking how tight they've been with promo dollars, paying the $350 certification fee plus travel expenses must beyond the label's budget.

I'm surprised Sony didn't release a 30 anniversary edition of Escape to capitalize on the "Don't Stop Believing" hype. I understand that having the GH disc keep selling is a priority so they sell as many units with a more narrow product line, but a SE of Escape would be a slam dunk this year. Then again, it looks like Escape is selling just fine without the SE treatment, so it might not have made fiscal sense after all, making this a useless post.

Good news for Eclipse. I wouldn't be all that surprised to see it end up selling pretty well. I really don't think a whole lot of people even knew it was out.

Pretty well being what? It's a long way from even outselling the Manila DVD at this point. This 4,000 units moved came on the heels of two television appearances in one week. That's less than a quarter of what the GH sold with its one day dollar off promotion on iTunes. Eclipse needs something huge to happen to stimulate sales but I don't know what that would be.

Pretty well being what? 250,000? It's a long way from even outselling the Manila DVD at this point.
Yeah, I would say 250,000 would be realistic. And honestly, I think that would be quite a feat considering how badly they have screwed over this album with no promotion and not using the best songs to put out as singles.

At some point you have to throw
Every Man's Journey into a sleeve, repackage Eclipse with it, and try to stimulate sales through (hopeful) press that the DVD gets when it's released. You think that's a possibility, Don? And don't me
anything is possible, either.

Yeah, I would say 250,000 would be realistic.
It would need a six month run selling what it did last week to hit that number. TV is done, like SJ said, Package it with Everyman's Journey as a special edition set and see if you can bring back the home crowd that seems to have drifted away.

I think the album is strong enough that it can do that. We'll just have to see.

How will the RIAA count those? If you are talking about doing a Revelation, that sold as a package, and I would think the sales count would start over FOR THE PACKAGE and they would not combine the totals.
Also, the Revelation package has two AUDIO CD's...that is why the number were doubled. I don't know if that would happen with only one audio CD in the package.

It would count as 1 CD sold per package.

Well, I doubt they can do that since when I brought it up earlier here there were issues concerning the producer wanting the final funding to edit it, produce the DVD and wanting it to be nominated for an Oscar. Between the package not being what the public expected and the release being the same day as Social Media Maven, Lady GaGa releasing her Born This Way CD, this offering has been Eclipsed indeed.

He's talking about Journey as a whole, not just Neal.

It wouldn't, but it would make for a good value package. Can't understand why mgmt hasn't thrown money into that film to get it done.

I think a better idea would be:
MelodicRock Films presents Everyman's Journey.

Good. There's a reason why the tour was planned to be so extensive.
I never thought, and still don't think Eclipse was or will be the a flop.
Gonna be a long-term steady-type thing. Question will be, will the numbers be good enough to get them back with WalMart or HOPEFULLY Best Buy next go round?

I would love to see them take a page from Def Leppard's book and do a live double album with a couple new studio tracks sprinkled in. We have two live CDs from the Perry era, it's time to release one from the current line up.
