Are they playing LaDoDa because Deen's not singing?

Postby Don » Mon Aug 22, 2011 2:53 pm

Since Deen isn't in the mix anymore and he has mentioned how they'll play songs like WCN to give Arnel a break vocally, could be that the reason the La Do Da is still in the setlist? Not really a song that is going to wear you voice out, is it?

Something about you baby
Really knocks me off my feet
Something about you sweetheart
Brings this poor boy to his knees

La, do, da, do, da
La, do, da, do, da, do, da

Something about you baby
Whey you touch me sweet so fine
I feel it, I feel it
When your body's close to mine

La, do, da, do, da
La, do, da, do, da, do, da

Less lyrics for sure, but I wouldn't equate holding those lengthy notes to a vocal walk in the park either.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure it out. They've had it in their set for a week now and with all the songs that you see included in setlist polls online and what not, this song sure ain't one of them.

You do still have to get your voice up there pretty high to sing it.

They're doing La Do Da because Neal's a fucking moron.

You're right. If they want to play a crap song from 30 years ago instead of a new song from the album they just put out, that's their prerogative.
And if we want to give them shit about it, it's our prerogative also.

It all balances out nicely, doesn't it?

You have a Greatest Hits bill with a shortened set and you're "supporting" a new album. Common fucking sense says that if a song is not a hit then it should be off of your new album. Period. No exceptions. La Do Da is an embarrassing song. Just total garbage in just about every way imaginable.

This clip just reminded me what a one note drummer Deen is. No groove, no finesse. It's like he's clubbing the drums with bricks. Uhg... I really miss Smitty in the mix. Neal's solo instrumental album with him can't come soon enough.

He's singing backing vocals, just not taking the lead on any songs.

I think "La Do Da" like many of Journey's early tunes were written to showcase the amazing and unique vocal ability of their singer. Journey no longer has any use for these songs.

Yeah, ok.

Oh that's right songs like "Daydream" and "Patiently" were written to showcase Neil's shredding guitar work.

Not a whole lot too them simplicity wise. They were a great display of vocal ability you could also throw in "Something To Hide" which seems like it would be the toughest song in the catalog to sing.

That said, I'd have no desire to hear them play any of them.

I think it sounds great. It's nice to hear something from deep in the past. Arnel did a nice job with it and its a fun song. Why does every Journey tune have to be lyrically deep with meaning? It's a fun tune. So suck on that one.

Bingo! How did we go from having fun with rock songs to now they must explain the existence of life?

Despite Cain's interviews, Eclipse is simply NOT that deep. Songs like "Someone" and "Ritual" are pretty much generic rock tunes.
