And nothing else from the album hit the AC channels, as far as I can tell.

In contemplating this....the lack of bigger sales and song traction for Eclipse (so far) is due to a few things:

- Revelation was a monster success and in today's day and age, it is rare to continue such momentum. That goes for movies, media, TV, music....the general public as such are getting more and more used to 15 minutes of fame being cut to 4.5 minutes.

- The package price was just too irresistable. 2 CDs (+ classics) and a DVD for $12 is value++

- Eclipse packaging - the cardboard crap has to hurt....bad packaging.

- The Arnel story had been told...and the public obviously wasn't going in for a double dip as far as hearing it again.

Well, sure...there's that...and the fact that not one song is remotely "Journey" sounding or accessible. One "Turn Down the World Tonight" on Eclipse, released as a single, would have doubled sales at the very least. It's kind of hard to carry on the New Journey - Arnel legacy without any real Journey songs to listen to.

Complete tosh. If you choose to be closed minded....I'm a fan of the band since the 80s and this record doesn't sound like anyone else except Journey.

Andrew, I own every single record every member of this band, current or present, has ever been involved with...and with the possible exception of some post-Grace Slick Starship albums, I find this record the least likeable, listenable, and memorable. Sorry, but my opinion counts - as does that of countless others who were turned off by Eclipse. It doesn't make me right, or anyone else wrong, but the degree to which the band alienated the fan base on this effort cannot be ignored.

You really can't rule out Lady GaGa factor on the promotion for that week. She hit every media source known to the music industry and lots unknown too

I've been to 3 shows...people are sticking around for the new songs And lots are singing along and know them, oh and the places are packed...I don't know how you define "Alienated" but however you do, that ain't it!

Maybe if they actually played their single in concert instead of la do da, people would remember it. It's a great radio song and concert song.

Eclipse is my favorite Journey album, but I find myself looking forward to the concert less and less. Incidentally, I was helping the staff out at a gala at the WKU library last night and a freshman stumbled in on my chat about Journey. She said the concert was amazing, Arnel was great, and the new stuff was pretty good, even though she was "definitely there for the classic stuff."

I find that hard to swallow, but fair enough. Your opinion (and that of others) does count, but you can't say it doesn't contain anything catchy or memorable. For you maybe...but that can't be a blanket statement.

I knew at the time I first heard it, that some would be sent running to the hills by this. It's a challenging record. I love it.

It also helps make a review really stand out when I review a record that I truly believe deserves to be heard by all readers of this site and one that I think could suit just about every fan of this genre. Lots of classic-sounding Journey songs on the album - "Someone", "To Whom It May Concern". "Ritual", "Anything Is Possible." Like any good album, it takes its fair share of risks too. You talk like its death metal or some completely different genre.

Does it sound like classic Journey? In my opinion, no. Is it good? In my opinion, absolutely. I believe a song like Resonate or Chain of Love would sound great alongside the stuff that rock radio is playing in 2011, whereas a new Journey-sounding song would sound completely out of place. That, to me, is the achievement of this album - that the band was able to come up with something contemporary. And like it or not - it should sound different from classic Journey. This is a different band, with different sensibilities. I won't say it's my favorite, but I can still commend the band on what I would agree is a challenging record.

Revelation was a very good Journey album, and it was not "challenging." When I'm listening to music, I don't want a challenge, I want to enjoy it.

This is why folks have issues with your grading system when you review albums. You gave Harem Scarem's HIGHER a 100% back in 2003, yet you didn't include it in your '03 list up there ^^^^^^. Get to updating....

Aside from some extended solos, there's very little challenging about it. It's just straight-forward guitar-driven rock, with subdued keys. "Edge of the Moment" is about the most "experimental" non-Journeyish tune on there - and even that is plenty melodic and contains some Journey trademarks.

AIP debuts at #30 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart.

I just think that many enjoy the "pop" aspect of Journey more than the "rock". Revelation (which I like) is more "pop" oriented (not as pop as ROR). Eclipse is more rock. Eclipse is the type of album I have been waiting for from Journey for a long time. A more rock oriented album. Or as Noble Cause called it, more "guitar" driven.

I agree, it's more rock yet that is not what Journey will ultimately be defined as. Look at AIP. Like every other charting Journey song over the last decade, it's on A/C.

Great list, thanks. I like that you have one Journey album in there. Raised On Radio, and for me it's the easiest album to listen to, and most radio friendly album IMO, next to probably ARRIVAL, in terms of ear friendly songs. I love Escape & Frontiers, and they could of been great!, but among the gem songs there are many unlistenable songs on those two, which completly ruin the overall package for both, hence why they are probably nowhere to be seen on your list.
