Neal Interview on the Homepage

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Wed Sep 07, 2011 2:21 am

Some interesting stuff, especially Neal's view that Arnel would kill on re-recording Arrival material. Neal also offers an open challenge to fans to tryand sequence Eclipse better. Arrival is a strong album, but they shouldn't re-do it. They should re-team with Jack Blades and write material for Arrival II.

Please leave Arrival alone Neal.

Good interview. I would have loved to ask Neal why they are downtuning and playing in Eb. Haven't read the Arnel interview yet, maybe you asked him.

Agreed. Some of the best tracks on the great Arrival album are the ones that Blades co-wrote. Bring him back into the fold for the next album. Please.

Wow, that's quite a challenge. That's like trying to better re-arrange the cat turds in the litter box to make it more visually appealing.

Thanks Andrew--great, fun interview sounds like for both of you in spite of the phone problems, lol.. It would be awesome if they went to Australia--would they draw big shows there? I don't know--are they well known there? They are probably known by DSB I suppose, ramble ramble, lol.. So much work; I never really thought about how much trouble it is to stage a show like they do how technical it is. Seems like they will be doing another album, too--so happy to read that! Such fun--thanks for putting it up for us!

Neal sure had a lot to say. Sounded like a nice conversation. I'm glad you and he are on good terms. Really good interview.

I admit, I did laugh at that point in the interview. I wonder if Andrew shit bricks when that phone disconnected. I bet he thought he crossed the line.

Was Blades not brought in by John Kalodner? I just don't see it happening again. I think Blades was more working for Sony then working with Journey.

And, I think it would be completely lame to rerecord Arrival. Maybe do some more of the album in concert but not rerecord. I have not read the interview...but if it seriously being considered, wow Journey has gone completely to the bottom of the hill.

I don't deny it... But Oprah saw OUR piece on Sunday Morning and booked the band. In fact - go watch the Oprah piece - they pulled OUR footage to build their taped montage.
Revelation's first TV hit was CBS Sunday Morning. Sorry if that's not sexy enough for Neal, but it happens to be true.

Oprah came 10 months after Revelation had already locked up it's platinum status . The Manila DVD was what got the boost from that media moment. Journey seized the momentum from that appearance and................vanished for the next 18 months.

Nine months after Oprah, Journeys's Greatest Hits was at #12 on the UK album chart, DSB was in the top 100 on music charts in over a dozen countries and..................Arnel was singing Bon Jovi medleys in Toronto.

Could be. I think Cain/Schon are too egotistical to use outside writers, which is a big mistake.

Re-record Arrival? Eh.....I'd buy it.

Play Arrival in its entirety live and make it a live album? FUCK YES

I don't like the idea of re-recording Arrival at all. Let's just go ahead and further white out Steve Augeri.

Despite knowing it would never happen - especially since the guy who sang on it isn't in the band any more - I would move heaven and earth to be there for that concert. And then I could die happy.

Steve Augeri is my favorite Journey singer, make no mistake. I wouldn't be crazy about re-records, but if they're out there, I'd buy them. I really love the material on Arrival and would be intrigued to the point of buying the re-records.

I would be ecstatic about Arrival live though

Love Neal's interview. You can feel his passion for music in general and especially the new album. He's right. The sequencing is absolutely perfect. I played Eclipse at a holiday barbecue party and everyone was raving about Eclipse. No one except one person even knew it was out.

Re Arrival, what I would like to have is a live album with hits like Separate Ways extended version, What I Needed extended version. etc. with some Arrival thrown in live like Signs of Life, We Will Meet Again, Live and Breathe, a couple more I would have to think about. I would have to give thought to the live songs from all eras I want. Then they could throw in four newly written songs with it.

Neal. if you're reading here, there is much love for Resonate. Put it back in concert. Anything is Possible I'm waiting, anticipating its first live introduction. Please take La Do Do out. No offense, but what are you thinking playing that and leaving the catchy Resonate out?

You never know. He said he just worked with Blades in some capacity on the album he just did with Marco and Deen, didn't he? I could see maybe a few tunes written all together someday.

"Yeah, I sure do.
.. and now I'm like the devil in everybody's eyes because it doesn't sound like our older stuff…but if we make a record that sounds like our older stuff then they'd say, well why can't they do something different. So, it's…you always want the opposite. They can always criticize."

I don't see how it's so different? The problem is that it's watered down JRNY with a powerless production. That is its real problem.

There are some songs on Arrival that Augeri owns (Kiss me Softly and I Got a Reason as examples). However, Higher Place NEEDS to be re-done by a stronger voice. I want that song to have one more chance. Deen-O singing it was amazing.
