It certainly could not hurt...I'm sure management has been looking into these types of situations. You don't get as big as Irving Azoff without knowing how to promote your artists. I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that these types of TV appearances would have to be set up well in advance what with the glut of actors/reality TV stars & comedians vying for spots. So, even though there is still several weeks of touring left in the USA (thru October, right), it seems like it would take that long to schedule prominent TV appearances.

Neal mentioned this on his interview with Andrew which was just posted. Keep in mind, this interview took place when they were just finishing up the European tour in June, so it's been 3 months. I'm sure the Today Show appearance was already planned at that time. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they have lined up this fall, on the media front.

I'm thinking they'll be on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition if they haven't been already...just judging from the pics on the Journey tour FB page.

Journey won't even play the one song live that had a chance on the charts, AIP. Why do some have this idea that Eclipse is somehow going to make a resurgence?
I don't think the decline of the music industry can be blamed here. RHCP just pushed 200k out the door their first week mainly because they have devoted hardcore fans.
While a lot of people LIKE Journey, they no longer have that million+ hardcore group that absolutely love them. Time and multiple vocalists has splintered/ broken up the Journey force quite a bit over the years. There is nothing on Eclipse that could be construed as a rallying call to bring the masses back into the fold.

Hard to argue with this.
I would say that the next album has to be a double album containing one full album of typical Journey ballads and another one with Ask The Lonely, Separate Ways, Never Walk Away type songs. Package in a live DVD showcasing 8-10 new songs and the DD and price it like Revelation. Oh yeah ... and promote it!!!

But wait! Why would they need to do that? After all, it wasn't the DD album that made Revelation sale! (TIC)

One thing I don't get, is as much as Neal goes on about loving and believing in Eclipse, the band isn't playing anything off of it? Just one song? I know they have to play the hits...and I know a 3-band package allows for a little less stage time...but if the record is "loved" by the band and Neal is that into it, why not play at least 3 songs from it? Play the GH disc then 3 new songs...what's the issue?

DVDs are always a good pack-in. When you see how well the Manila DVD did, you've got to throW a video in with all of your releases from here on out. It makes people think they are getting quite a bit of value for their dollar. Disney started the who double disc thing in their own arena of retail by bundling DVD, and Digital copies with their Blu-rays for only a few dollars more. It works the same way in the music industry. It's a no brainer. Throw in your older songs for free but in a live video or even a making of film, really anything to make the fan fee l like they are getting a great deal.
MirrorBall ain't that great of a release but it continues to outsell Eclipse 10fold because of the extra discs in the package.
Journey gave us three discs at 12 bucks, ten discs at 10 dollars. After those, how do you petal out one disc in recycled toilet paper wrap?
I think when we look at Eclipse, it wasn't so much the music that failed with but rather everything around it from price, packaging and the entirely missed promotional opportunities in 2010 when Journey/DSB was on top of the world.

I gotta figure they will start playing more Eclipse when they get away from this 2 opening act format.
More time and more Journey fans should equal a chance to stretch that material out. I geuss we're about 1/4 of the way in for the 2-year planned Eclipse tour.

It was just them and Night Ranger the other night. With a week off coming up and more set time without Foreigner, I was surprised they didn't at least play one more song from Eclipse.

The same two they have been doing, COH and EOTM. 15 song setlist again also. I think they really miss having Deen spell Arnel once in awhile.

Embarrassing. This all harkens back to my post pleading with them to go on tour with the Scorpions. That 2 band bill, longer set time and harder rock audience would have allowed them the flexibility to play 3-4 new songs. Listen to me next time, fuckers!!!
PS When I saw them with just Night Ranger in Omaha they played 4 new songs (COH, COL, Tantra and EOTM). I felt like I got my money's worth. Let's see how I feel in 3 weeks, though, with the newer set list.
