Any of you have any Journey on Blu-Spec CD?

If so, how do you think they sound compared to the normal CD's?

A friend of mine loaned me a copy of a Blu-Spec sampler disc that has DSB on it. It sounded great.

It's no different than all these other CD redesigns they have been doing. Another that supposedly lessens vibration when the disc was being written or whatever.
It's just not worth the money. If the regular CD sounds fine, you are really going to be pressed to hear any kind of difference and if you're playing this through a generic system or car stereo you won't. Sony just doesn't want to let physical CDs go yet but it's inevitable. The average fans are perfectly fine with 192 kbps, they're not looking for anything better.

Exactly. The average person cannot hear differences in audio beyond that point. Most people can't tell the difference between 192 & 128, let alone CD & Blu-Spec CD. It's an aural ceiling that no amount of technology will shatter. Just beacause you can see the differences in the wav form on the computer screen does not mean your average person is going to hear them.

I don't really intend to spend a ridiculously high amount of money to "upgrade" to Blu-spec CD's.
But like I mentioned, a friend of mine has a Sony Blu-Spec sampler disc that he loaned me. It has "Don't Stop Believin" "Black Magic Woman" "Hold The Line" and a bunch of other songs on it. I honestly thought that I could hear some slight improvement on the Blu-Spec CD.

On DSB it sounded like Ross' bass playing had more of an obvious presence.

Anyone got any 24k gold Audiophile CDs? I know my remastered 24k Eagles Hotel California CD sounds amazing.

I have the Infinity one. It sounded clearer in its day but most remasters are as good if not better.

Well now, that all depends upon what software was used to rip those MP3s. I have heard some MP3s ripped at 128 that sounded pretty good, and others that sounded like half of the music is underwater. If you had made that statement about ten years ago, I would have vehemently disagreed with you. Luckily now, the mp3 conversion software has improved quite a bit. I usually rip all of my audio CDs to 320kbps MP3s just to be on the safe side.

Gold Plated, Blu-Spec, Hybrid, it doesn't really matter.
A lot of albums issued on the gold plated discs now have regular CD versions that sound better than them because of new remastering.

I also have the the Infinity one. But that's it. I would have bought the Gold versions of Escape and Frontiers as well, if I had been able to find them. But I agree, recent remasters sound as good or better. The Gold Infinity did sound better than the normal CD release, back when it came out.

I wish that the Rock Candy label could remaster and re-release the entire Journey collection. The Survivor remaster/re-releases that have come out on Rock Candy in the last year or so sound awesome. I highly doubt that they could obtain the rights to them, however.

Sony ain't ever giving that shit up. Perry handles the remastering anyway so no matter the label name, the work would probably still end up in his hands regardless.
