Night Ranger, Foreigner and Journey? And all together? Hellz yeah they were! Last night, these three "ready to rock" bands appeared at the Comfort Dental Amphitheatre and reminded us all just how awesome their music still is.

The smell of hairspray and leather pants was in the air, and even if their audience's hair was more gray than not, Night Ranger still came ready to party. Its opening number "Lay It On Me" got the already-stirring crowd riled up. The teeny-tiny lead singer and the rest of the band were definitely still living in the '80s, with their shaggy dos and tongue flicking antics, but they put on a solid rock show. And the band didn't stray from its hits, including "Sing Me Away," "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" and their signature "Sister Christian."

It was a rowdy, fun concert that even people who didn't know who in the hell these bands were would've enjoyed.

The anticipation for Foreigner could be felt in the crowd as Night Ranger exited the stage after the patriotic performance of "(You Can Still) Rock In America." Seriously. Equipped with matching American flag guitars.

Foreigner was absolutely no let down. They opened with "Double Vision" to get the crowd psyched and then lead right in to "Head Games." This band could do no wrong. Even when Kelly Hansen, lead singer, stumbled and fell into the crowd, the audience continued to cheer him on right into "Waiting For a Girl Like You."

If you were expecting the typical '80s pyrotechnics, this was definitely not the show for you (there were more fireworks in the Taylor Swift show earlier this week), but even the cheesy '80s 8-bit animation that played behind the band's classic "Jukebox Hero" seemed to get the crowd excited. We've never seen so many drunken, middle-aged women thrusting their pelvises to a song more than "Hot Blooded," and the eternal awesomeness that is "I Want to Know What Love Is" had everyone crooning along. Kudos, Foreigner. Well done.

By the time Journey took the stage, some of the audience had already left to pay babysitters...but more the fools, they. Because Journey rocked it hard. Fine, it sort of sucks that there was no Steve Perry, but that disappointment quickly drifted away once Arnel Pineda, in his wicked tight white jeans, took the stage and performed "Separate Ways."

We even forgive Pineda for sporting a Tebow jersey through a couple songs -- but really, leave the sports-politics out of it. With the exception of one new song, Journey sang most of its standards: "Wheel in The Sky," "Who's Crying Now," "Open Arms," "Lights," and "Faithfully." And, of course, they closed the show with fan-favorite "Don't Stop Believing." which has to have one of the best, most recognized openings in the history of rock-and-roll and karaoke bars all over the world.

It was a rowdy, fun concert that even people who didn't know who in the hell these bands were would've enjoyed.

So the headliner was the Tribute band that is Foreigner? Get real, dude!! There is not one original member in Foreigner that played that night. People left for their own reasons. Maybe it got late and they had kids to pick up. Even the most cynical among us can recognize a cheap shot when we see it. Nobody in their right mind can deny that Journey is a huge touring success.

Make that, Nobody in their right mind can deny that Journey and Foreigner are a huge touring success. Read the reviews that aren't from the plokker sites. Kelly has consistently received praise as the best showman of the tour night in and night out while songs like IWTKWLI have gotten serious accolades as song of the night, especially by incorporating people from the community into the choir every show.

That Foreigner is still bringing it every night without Mick is amazing and the fact that Journey has pretty much abandoned Eclipse on the "Eclipse" tour to keep pace with Foreigner's set speaks volumes.

They are still not Foreigner, Don. Whatever something else they are, they are successful, but they are not Foreigner. A band with zero original members owns the franchise, that's all. Do they kick ass? Yes.

Steveo your posts are so inconsistent, you slam Journey in your own thread and defend them to the hilt elsewhere, you get real dude. How can you say they are a huge touring success when the audience leaves before they're on stage as has been reported previously to this. I agree with what you said regarding Foreigner but it does APPEAR the tribute band and Night Ranger are the real draw based on this review. Your saying people spent their hard earned cash to see Journey and then left early to pick up their kids wtf. Was it you that said Neal fucked it all up or was it your crystal ball? Dude you can't have it both ways.

Live review: Journey @ Comfort Dental Amphitheatre

By Evan Semon | October 3rd, 2011
http://www.heyreverb.com/2011/10/03/jou ... re-photos/

If anything was proven Saturday night at Comfort Dental Amphitheatre, it’s that classic rock fans come for the music and could care less who may be delivering it. Just as long as it takes them back to that time in their lives when the music meant the most to them.

Journey is one such band that can do that to people. The fans age, the musicians age, but the music is timeless.

The current lineup of Journey only includes three original members in keyboardist Jonathan Cain, bassist Ross Valory and lead guitarist Neal Schon. The voice that gave the group its rise to popularity, Steve Perry, has been replaced in the talent of 44-year-old Filipino singer-songwriter Arnel Pineda.

Pineda’s voice matches that of Perry’s and no jeers came from the sold out crowd, which was just happy to get a chance to hear the songs they love so much, live and in concert.

Pineda played to the Colorado crowd by appearing in a Tim Tebow jersey and the audience received a bonus semi-celebrity sighting when famed White House party crasher Michaele Salehi appeared on stage with her new beau in Neal Schon as he concluded the guitar solo on “Faithfully.”

Journey delivered on all its hits, concluding the encore and the show with “Don’t Stop Believing,” still the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history.

Set List:

Separate Ways
Ask the Lonely
Send Her My Love
City of Hope
Faithfully
Stone In Love
Escape
Lights
Wheel in the Sky
Open Arms
LA DO DA DO DAY
Be Good to Yourself
Lovin’ Touchin’

Encore

Anyway You Want It
Don’t Stop Believing
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

Wow, maybe Neal was only being ironic? Seriously, he should avoid at all cost tainting the song like that. Don't cook the goose that lays the golden eggs, Neal.

Comment of the Day!

Reader: Journey...Steve Perry isn't coming back

By Dave HerreraTue., Oct. 4 2011 at 7:30 AM

http://blogs.westword.com/backbeat/2011 ... g_back.php

Over the weekend at Comfort Dental Amphitheatre, there was a triple bill featuring what's left of Night Ranger, Foreigner and Journey. Stephanie March had fun, and while Spaceplace, who posted our comment of the day, agrees that it was fun, there were plenty of other things he didn't appreciate, from the plethora of forty and fifty somethings getting high to the way Arnel Pineda takes liberties with classic Journey songs.

"I was at this concert, wow - was this reviewer drunk too?
Night Ranger totally rocked the place, best band of the night. Foreigner has been reduced to a cover band, even the last original member, Mick Jones, was a no-show for this concert.

When Journey hit the stage, Arnel decided he wanted to sing several of the songs the way HE wanted to, not the way they were written. Extending notes the way some choose to do when they sing the National Anthem. These are classics and you don't mess with classics. Even portions of the crowd boo'd when he consistently altered the way he sang them.

Was it fun? Sure...but I was still amazed at the amount of 40 & 50 somethings who still insist on getting high at a rock show. No security to speak of, not even an usher except at the point of separation between general admission (lawn) seating and the assigned seats.

The quality of Night Ranger's voice was exceptional, Foreigner sounded really good, but it's not them, and Journey...Steve Perry isn't coming back, Steve Augeri was a solid replacement, John Scott Soto was horrible...Arnel is an improvement over him, but that's not saying much. He can hit the notes, but his tone is different and it seems his popularity has begun to take over and he's becoming full of himself. Thanks for the 70's & 80's Journey - it was awesome, but as Journey sings "The Party is over...."

Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

ONE NEW SONG??

CRAP!!! I knew by the time they got to Seattle they'd do that. SON OF A B****!

I really don't need to hear the old stuff yet again. Disappointing. I'm sure it'll still be a good concert, but man that sucks.

COME ON JOURNEY! Play the NEW stuff! They already bought the tickets, it's not like you have to give them a refund!! Play what you want.
