onmyjrny wrote:With all the talk about Foreigner no longer really Foreigner and Journey disbanding in the near future, I just began thinking about at what point would Journey no longer be Journey to you? If Neal decides to start doing reality shows and the others still want to continue the band, would you consider still supporting the band? If Jonathan quits to pursue his Nashville interests and Gregg Rolie returns would they be more "Journey" than they are today? Just a few things to think about .

If Perry (old voice was suddenly rejuvenated), Gregg Rolie, Steve Smith, and two others to take over the bass and guitar got together, I would call that Journey without hesitation.
And would enjoy it much more than the current incarnation of the band.

Hey, welcome back knox! To me the core of Journey is Perry and Schon.

Nice to be back! Thank you.
Yes, their chemistry was awesome. Too bad we all have to get old - and in Perry's case, lose his voice.

If Cain departs, Schon will not continue for sure

That wouldn't work. When Perry came out for his solo tour with Brewster, it was really cool to hear Perry. But when he did the Journey tunes, the magic was not there. Neal brings a lot more to the music than I think some may realize. I think all the current line up are great, but if Neal quit, then I'd be done too. Perry got my attention first and got me into this band, but it was Neal that made me love them.
yogi wrote:To answer the above question Journey will stop being Journey when Neal hires Whitney Houston + others to be their next lead singers. Here is what will unfold after the band hires Whitney:
Whitney suddenly quits(protest over too much money being spent on pre & post concert meals) look for Neal & Jonathan to go after a 450lb Axl Rose. Axl will then be fired after his 4TH Journey show for consuming far toooooooooo much of the pre & post concert meal spread.
Finally in 2019 Steve Perry will join his band mates in the studio to record a new album with a 60 city tour to start in 2020. Unfortunately, Steve will have to pull out of the tour because of cataracts in both eyes. With thousands of concert tickets already sold and the Grammy nominated single 'Feed The World' #1 in 11 countries Neal and Jonathan decide to move forward and hire new lead singer Helen Reddy. Behind Neals shredding guitar work and Helen's rapsy vocals a revitalized Journey has another #1 song in the remake of I am Women.
To me this is when Journey will stop being Journey!

I like Ross. Night after night he just goes out there and does his job, makes funny faces, and doesn't bring blonde controversial attention whores with him. He also doesn't go noodling off on the bass. Quite simply put, he stays in his square. Good dude.

Was not my intention to make it harsh, Ross is Ross and he does his thing. My point is that musically it is Neal and Jonathon that make Journey what it is and has been since Perry left the band. If Neal wants to go on he will, regardless to who it is with under the Journey name, but Ross does not contribute from a song writing perspective the way Cain does, and Journey would lose some of it's song writing balance if Neal went on without him. If Cain leaves it's really the Neal Schon Band.

We've already seen how that turned out.

I disagree. This car will only be impounded once Neal shuts it off. Don't see that happening anytime soon.
