Love Deen and hsi honesty. If you watch the interview part where he is talking about Perry leaving the band he states "Perry says that he quit and Neal says that he was fired." The Neal part is funny because of this quote:

JOURNEY guitarist Neal Schon said that new singer Arnel Pineda wouldn't mind sharing the stage with former frontman Steve Perry, who now has an open invite to sing with the band. Says Schon:

"Arnel is totally down and such a humble human being, that he would be over-joyed if Steve wanted to walk on stage and sing with us. Honestly. He's not just saying that. I've always left the door open.

I made it a point the last time I spoke to Perry, when we received the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. There were so many rumours going around that I hated him, I'm the one that kicked him out of the band.

I wanted to make sure people saw me asking him - 'if you ever feel that you'd like to walk on stage, there's always an open door.'"

So now maybe we are getting at the the truth a little bit, not like it matters anymore. Also noted that the "Gag Order" is still in place and it really seems to me that Perry lives by it why Neal does not.

Not sure how Deen could say Steve says he quit, since he has never talked to Steve.

You can't be fired from a job you haven't been at for over 12 years.

great interview with Deen. I'm really surprised that he's not got himself into trouble with the comments that he's made about Perry's split. Not that he's saying anything bad or anything, but just because of the litigious nature of everybody. Wish the entire interview was there.

I'm not sure what your place in the workforce is, but try telling your boss that you need a leave of absence to decide on a potential surgery. Then come back almost 2 years later and tell your employer that you still haven't made up your mind about said surgery, and let me know what they say. My guess is that they'll inform you that you were terminated for abandonment.

We're really arguing the chicken/egg quagmire here. Steve Perry was let go because he refused to work. And that was his decision, not the band's. Like I've always said ... people generally fire themselves. And his output since then pretty much confirms that he had no intention to tour. Probably because he simply couldn't. Yet he conveniently withheld that tidbit from the band when he wanted back in in 1995. But it allowed him to once again make the band start over ... this time without the world's best manager. You know, the guy that catapulted Journey into super stardom, put Europe and Mr Big on the map, and turned Roxette into a hit-making global powerhouse.

He has this rant saved and is ready to push repeat at any given moment!!
I, on the other hand, tend to view Perry as part owner of said business, rather
than just an employee who was fired for truancy... I'm not arguing the rest!!

There's simply no reason not to repeat it. The ridiculous assertion that he was somehow unjustifiably fired needs to be corrected ... every time it's uttered. The guy couldn't tour because he can't sing at anything better than 1 full step down, and he's simply unwilling to do that. FTLOSM was his last hurrah, and he didn't even finish that tour, even having to omit songs along the way which were already a half step down. There are enough horrible bootlegs that offer up proof of a voice in shambles. To be fair, though, there were some good concerts, too.

It's not a business if it's buried and not making money, and from 1988-1998 they played a grand total of zero shows. And "as part owner of said business" he also abandoned his company and went to tour on his own. He showed zero loyalty to the company that waited almost a decade for him. I think it's pretty telling when you're in a band for over 20 years and virtually every member thinks you're an asshole, and you keep in contact with none of them.

If you helped invent the car and then one day were no longer
able/willing to help make or drive them, would you give up your share/rights
for your part in the creation?!? Do you think Neal would have?!? He may be
duuuhmb, but he's not stupid ...on second thought, perhaps Jon would
be the better example. This was a fantastic business move and well deserved,
as it would've been for any of the main songwriters/contributors!!
There is absolutely nothing remotely reproachable or indecent about the deal ...z-e-r-o!!

I'll agree with the bolded,
in re: to the rest, Perry served as a lifesaver moreso than anchor.

If the band were just going to move on without him they shouldn't
have waited so many years. Why did they wait?!?
You say loyalty, I say they wanted more bang for their buck and they knew where the buck stopped ...
They have only themselves to blame for the missed years ....and I believe they'd do it again, given
the opportunity!!

And it was nothing to the properties that they walked away from. Not only do I know the music business, but I know business. I know real estate and I really set these guys up for life beyond belief. Oh, do they rue the day-'cause they know I didn't sell my shit. And I can buy and sell all of these guys together. You know, at this point in your life you should be able to. I would have complete fear and loathing if I knew I had to be on a tour bus right now with Neal Schon, working on this Arrival Tour. He's the youngest guy out there at 47. Actually, Cain issued an ultimatum: Tell us when you're getting the surgery or we're moving on. It was Perry who made the decision, because he admittedly despised ultimatums. Was he justified? Maybe, maybe not. But while Cain made a phone call, Perry made the call: He made the decision.

According to Perry himself, he was given a choice in the matter: Give them a timetable or leave the band. He might not have liked the choice and its options, but that doesn't matter: it was still a choice. He made the call.
