Just curious. How does everyone think the second greatest hits package will do? We all know that Greatest Hits 1 went 15 platinum and reached #10 on bb. What about Greatest Hits 2, do you think it will reach the top 40 on bb, or how about initial sales? Havent really seen any commercials or advertisement for it, besides the youtube thing.

I'm not predicting a top 40. I think if it breaks into the top 100, it will be good showing. Really, these tracks aren't actually in heavy rotation on the radio like at least half of GH 1 one are.

Top ten, easily.

I agree. The casual fans have the songs they want on GH1 and the die hards already have everything on GH2.

I think it all depends on what the label does to promote it. Should they promote it, it will easily crack the Top 10. If not, you're looking at Top 30-50.

I own these song several times over also, but this mix is shipping to me tomorrow.

I'm gonna say it debuts at #150. Sony spent nothing on putting this together. Even the cover art is recycled. It's more of an audiophile release because of the vinyl edition. I do think this might have legs later though (sorry Neal, I just had to say that) when the holiday sales start. iTunes could give this a nice bump like they did with GH 1 on Father's Day by cutting the price a dollar or two.
The album is at #280 on Amazon's sales list right now, so there are people interested in it.

I'll be interested in a few other thing too.

A) Will Street Talk make it back on Billboard, even if just for a week at #199? It's outselling Eclipse three to one on Amazon as it is but we all know how Journey fucked up that part of the launch to begin with.

B) Will Sony finally get some of the back catalog re-certified now, primary Escape which should be Diamond already?

I'm a big fan of vinyl, and I'll probably pick up these vinyl releases as some of those songs on these albums are not on vinyl. I am still waiting on Trial By Fire to be re-released on vinyl.

It will get a boost over the holidays when people are shopping in stores and may crack the billboard top 100 but I dont expect much more. It's a weak compilation as far as content.

I can understand wanting to put something from TBF on the GH2, but I wonder why they didn't put either MoL or IHSBYH on it? At least I did hear those two songs played on air (albeit not as much as WYLAW.)

The last Journey album released didn't sell jack shit, so I doubt this one will either, since most fans already own all these songs. Can't blame Sony for wanting to squeeze the titty one more time though.

Actually, I've heard the opposite. While probably true initially, the opposition now comes from a different direction where there are those who don't want to have a visual product out there with a singer that's different than the one they trying to get people on board with. Four years in, many fans know that Journey has a foreign singer but a large number of them not only don't know his nationality, many don't even know his name.

I don't buy that. They signed off on Houston and the other GH videos, but, granted, that was when Augeri was in the band ( I believe), but it's still a different singer. Besides, there is a market for both incarnations, and also some cross-over. I just don't think Neal or Jon would say no to something that is already out there, just in an older, dated format.

I think I'm right on this one but maybe someone from the band can drop in and give a better explanation apart from Sony just just not wanting to put forth the effort to do it.
IF I'm wrong, I think if the GH2 does better than most of us are predicting, it could warm the waters a bit as far digging older stuff like videos back out of the vault.

I think the BS about Deen not singing because it confuses the audience does help in my argument though.

I am glad I ordered Frontiers and Beyond on the Journey website a few years ago when it was released on dvd. Guess they only made a few copies.

One of the Classic Rock stations in Cleveland gave MOL a lot of air-play at the time. They even played CTTL a few times.

Sony should've put this out around the time of Trial By Fire, instead of doing that Essential Journey package. If released then, they'd probably have sold (I think, conservatively) 5 - 8 million copies by now, that number also likely getting a boost from all of the attention the band has had the past five years. Now, it's a cash grab that seeks to take advantage of what could be the tail end of a hurricane of interest in the band. They will have to market the hell out of it, and (I think, optimistically) may wind up selling double platinum in the first year. How it does after that will depend largely on whether or not the band continues broadening its legacy as it has done recently.

Judging by the dismal sales of Eclipse, that "hurricane" may only be reserved for the classic music and the band just happens to be the conveyors of it. Did the band partially shut down its board with that "hurricane of interest" out there? The Greatest Hits were on the charts in 2010 when the band was incognito. Glee moved millions for the catalog, but don't think the band moves nearly as much. But if that's the case, I hope advantage is taken b/c there may be a repeat of 2008, 2009 then fall off the planet.
