Rerecord Red 13?

If the band feels inclined to rerecord what they feel might have been a missed opportunity... why not Red 13?
Listening to the LP again, I feel that there's some great material there.
Any thoughts on slapping down some stronger vocals and, much more importantly, stronger production?
I disapprove of rerecording Arrival or even Generations, but what do you all think?

I don't have any complaints about Augeri's vocals on Red 13. But the production on it does suck at times.
I always thought that it would have made more sense to have re-recorded a couple of the tracks from Red 13, than to have re-recorded FITH and TPIYH.
I would love to hear State Of Grace with better production.

I love SOG, but the Time is where it's at for me right now. And few ballads in Journey's catalog compares with WAFTE.

I'd like to hear Generations remastered. Sonically that one really bothered me. Not the performances, just the way the disc sounds.

I'd rather they do a Covers EP versus more re-records. I'd download a re-recorded Red 13 from Pirate Bay just to have a listen but I wouldn't purchase it.

Really?
There's a lot of strong material there, imho. Production really takes the kick out of it, though.

To me, WAFTE is one of Augeri's finest efforts. We don't need to go all Sharon Ozbourne and even re-record the little triumphs SA had just to try and sell Pineda some more.

That is definitely an underated Journey ballad.

God, I can't even fathom the thought of Pineda mangling a delicate vocal like WAFTE. NO FUCKIN THANKS!

I'm still trying to figure out why it was recorded the first time!

Gotten awfully harsh on Pineda's studio vocals lately, haven't you Matt?

True, however they have redone the two most significant tracks from it, the rest might not be worth to re-record (except never too late, for which i would like to hear it from Augeri actually, he deserved lead vocals there in the first place)
RED 13 could be redone also like the two tracks from Generation

Walking Away From The Edge is the one off Red 13 I like. A remaster of either that or Generations I would be up for, but not a re-record.

Is this a joke?
Rerecording Dead13 is like hunting down the ugliest girlfriend of your past, who had 100 extra pounds (but now has 150), sagging breasts, one of which is deformed, a raging case of crabs and a chronic case of vaginal odor....
once you find her, you rush her to the nearest roach-infested motel and bang her six ways til sunday.......
There are so many highly compelling reasons to leave your mistakes in the past.....

Fucking classic! I couldn't agree with your assessment more. It's as bad as some of these dopes suggesting that abortion "Generations" needs to be fucking bronzed. That dog shit CD needs to be shoved up Neal's anus sideways

Dig the shit out of your ears, people!

And with that said, I say NO to a re-record!

This would be akin to Pink Floyd getting together for one more recording session in the studio to re-record the Best of Wham and Men Without Hats.
A shitty, awful, piece of shit EP. I let my dog chew my copy up.
Journey has written exactly 4 good songs since Arrival, and they were all on Revelation. City of Hope, Beyond the Clouds, and Never Too Late are decent. Otherwise...ugh.

I never predicted that the poll would be this close.

Love that song too....would actually like it if Deen recorded that song along with the Generations album...

This is the way I feel about Red13 a little.
Remaster it MAYBE but don't rerecord it. Maybe song for the next album like the did w/ FITH.
But I'd like to say ANY of Red13 escpecially The Time put back in the setlist.

Personally, I get rerecording the Perry era hits if you want to have better control of your catalog or your record deal depends on doing that for the retailer. I don't think it's necessary or like it, but I understand that rationale.
That being said, I think there's a difference with rerecording the hits for that purpose verses rerecording stuff that was not that successful for a myriad of reasons, though I don't believe lack of talent is one of them. Similarly the idea of rerecording Arrival or them already doing FITH and APIYH from Generations, it gives the impression that Neal or the band wants to whitewash the 8 years Augeri gave to the band by giving Arnel a crack at it and hoping for better results. It just seems rather pointless to me. If you want to do that, sing some of the songs live and put out a live CD.
Personally, I liked the more rock focused tracks on Red13. No, it didn't sound like Journey, which is why so many people hated it, and Eclipse is basically Neal trying to venture out and do that again without taking such a huge step. I think of Eclipse as legacy Journey and Red13 combined, with a lot better production and some better material.
Go back and on an off year or when you are ready to retire, remaster everything, and give it the attention it deserved in the first place, and give everyone their due with respect to the vocals, and stay away from rerecording anything else.

That particular song was in Neal's solo tour setlist. Practically nothing from Late Nite and Beyond The Thunder were included though.
