Any truth to this?

According to the DJ this morning on the classic rock station I listen to, Neal said there is a good chance the next time Journey tours they will be doing an hour long concert of an entire album.

I don't remember reading any interview or statements from Neal about this...wasn't he against doing a whole album in concert at one point?

With Neal, you never know!

I would think it would be longer than an hour overall, and they would include more, but there has been some chatter over the past couple years about whether they should do the Escape or Frontiers albums in their entirety. This is probably what he is referring to.

Maybe this is a way of re-recording an album w/AP.
They don't have to go into the studio. Just do it live on tour. It'll get recorded.

If they do it, my guess would be a first set of hits (minus those on the album to be played), an intermission, and then the album. Or possibly in reverse. So it wouldn't just be an hour concert (even though they barely played longer than that on this tour - what a fucking RIPOFF).

Well, he also said they were going to play the new music regardless of what the fans thought and we see how that worked out. They pretty much play half of Escape anyway but seeing as Deen usually sings Still They Ride and Mother, Father there would have to be change of heart with management also as they silenced Castronova vocally pretty much the entire last tour.

Steely Dan did this in Los Angeles where they had four shows at the Gibson Amphitheater. The first three nights were a different album each evening and the fourth night was a setlist made from an internet request list. It went over very well.

Journey doesn't have the balls to do this. Plain and simple. They tried mixing it up on the Gens tour with some pre-Perry material and said the reception was negative. Most recently, Neal said he wrote Eclipse to help liven up their concert setlist and then they end up playing a grand total of ONE track off of it. These guys are spineless. Azoff mngmt prolly dictates what they play nightly.

Depends on the album. If it is Eclipse  if it is Escape then

Missed oppurtunity by the band.

They could've recorded Escape live and released it with Eclipse on a cd/cd/dvd combo an drove sales up some.

For almost any one of my other favorite bands, if they recorded a live performance of an album that's widely regarded as "classic" among fans, I'd go nuts. For Journey? Blah. Not a single Journey album has that "classic from start-to-finish" appeal for me. It's really pretty remarkable considering how much I like the band as a whole. Any other band that ranks near them for me has several albums I'd kill to hear live from start to finish.

Escape isn't even that good.

Songs like Keep on Runnin, Dead or Alive, Lay It Down, and Open Arms rank among the band's worst. Even Still They Ride, one of my favorite tracks to hear live, is a weak album track imo.

I'd probably rather hear the TRUE Frontiers (i.e., with Ask the Lonely and Only THE Young) than Escape. And there are of course, some shit songs there too.

Have to disagree with ya on Escape. I can listen to that album from start to finish. In my opinion, that album encompasses all the great 80's vibes for me. While I'll agree most would think Lay It Down and Dead or Alive would be the album's weakest (mostly because they are considered fillers) I love the music to those songs. I'd definitely check out an Escape show. However, certainly, I'd have a hard time deciding between Escape and Frontiers.

That's one of their best live or studio, in my opinion.

Ha. Painful to admit, but true. "Keep on Running" and "Lay it Down" have always been filler to me. I actually like "Dead or Alive" quite a bit tho. "Still They Ride" is pure AOR gold. The closest Journey has to a perfect album is....(wait for it)....Revelation and Eclipse! Other Journey albums have much stronger material, but in terms of track list, these cds flow from start to finish.

A few weeks ago, I saw Judas Priest do 'British Steel' on HDNET. The stage was kinda small & boring (may have been in a casino), but just hearing that whole album live again was pretty darned awesome.

Been hearing this for 15 years and they just keep getting more popular each year and keep releasing new music.

So..whatever.

And in honesty, part of the reason Escape doesn't have quite the prestige for me as it may for other fans is simply because I'm younger. The classic songs on Escape are beyond overplayed for me and I didn't literally "grow up" with them. So that colors my opinion. In a perfect world, an album with tracks like Stone In Love and Don't Stop Believin probably would be a classic for me. It's just that I had heard those songs so many times outside the context of them being part of an album that it probably colors my opinion of the album's collective strength.

Well, to clarify, they get more popular due to their past hits like Don't Stop Believing. Releasing new music is an after thought.

This year's tour was pretty shitty, poor sound, poor set lists, downtuning, etc. They should have called it the legacy tour, sans Perry. Maybe it's just me but when downtuned, I like Pineda less on the old stuff, but like him fine on the newer material.

I like Augeri and Pineda much more on the new stuff than the old. But every time we've counted Journey out they rebound stronger than before. The show I saw was great...although I could tell from some you tubes they had some nights not as good as the one I saw. Still...new album, top 10 tour...hard to say they're done.

Ok, well, maybe I exagerated a bit. We'll see what happens next year. I want them to do something that impresses me.

Ok with the downtuning, but the sound did indeed suck and so did the set-lists. They should at least throw the fans a bone besides "La Do Da."

They should have thrown the fans a bone and cut their set by 10 minutes and gave it to Night Ranger.

Part of the problem with this tour, as with all package tours, is that the band didn't have time to go into any deeper cuts. Fuck Night Ranger.

They should have given NR more than 10 additional minutes. NR blew Journey away in Indy this tour. I'll be looking them up when they are headlining to see more of their stuff.

Foreigner was also better than Journey. Given a choice, I'd rather see Journey play longer.
