Escape tribute live video. Jason Kelty and band kicking ass.

Their 1st serious show since getting back at it. Partial video and pretty damn good sounding. With Jason and band sounding this tight right off from resuming I cant wait to hear what they have in store..

After Neals crank shot (thank god I never saw it !) I dont think I can go see the real band live again. I just have no respect for the guy at all but these guys will do just fine.

Saint John and I saw these guys (well, some of them, Kelty included) back in December 2008 at the Sly Fox in North Olmstead, OH. Great time and a great show. At the time, they were playing as Eclipse, so they did some other bands' songs too. Hope to catch Escape soon.

Between Frontiers coming to Northeast Ohio regularly and Escape being a local treasure, there is absolutely NO fucking way I will ever pay the bloated prices I paid last summer to see Journey on its last legs ever again.

That's just Neil's bitch commenting. Don't pay her any mind! He knows him personally.

He sounds nothing like the MP3 clips of his earlier career that I heard. Seems very forced now, whereas it used to be natural. Chalfant is still the king imho.

They're among the best, that's for sure.

Along with Evolution, The Great Escape, Frontiers and Trial By Fire

I'm with you there. He didn't do this at the show I saw a few years ago.

Sounds good. Would still opt to see the real deal (whatever that means at this point) over a tribute act. Jason has the nasality of Perry down cold. Neal has looked at several replacements for Augeri over the years, wonder if Jas was ever looked at.

Supposedly they know about him. Jason's voice has thickened a bit over the years and I think it has helped him as that Faithfully cover they did sounded killer. IN the past he was a bit thin on the later material. Hell, no one can cover all of Perry's voice changes.. Three distinct periods. Infinity to Escape, Frontiers to Against The Wall, FTLOSM TO TBF. I like Jason on the earlier stuff but might have to give the nod to Jeremey on the latter. Personally I prefer Infinity to Escape and dont listen to ROR at all anymore. Frontiers gets played here and there but hot damn there too much reverb on that thing. Dont like the production Frontiers and hate the production on ROR. Too digital, to much reverb and over compressed. Some songs on ROR sound like a fucking drum machine.. I hate drum machines !

He sounded maybe too much like Perry (infinity era) at one point and singing later songs like Ask The Lonely, while very good sounded like infinity era Perry singing it. That cant be bad of course but you expect to hear more thickness. He now has that as well and sounds a bit more original while still maintaining the power in his upper register. I think as far as pitch is concerned that he is the best out there as far as these tributes go. From a musicians stand point all of the members of Escape are near elite players and I have never heard anyone play Schon's solos and overall style so well including tone. Scott could replace Schon if we lived in an alternate universe or something. No kidding. I have been in touch with Jason very recently and would you believe he is also playing drums for a Rush tribute ?!?! Haha. He posted some youtube vids of his rehearsals.. Damn good drummer too !

Kelty still sounds real good. But after seeing DSB live and hearing Still They Ride and especially Oh Sherrie. Juan Del Castillo, IMO, is easily the one that sounds the most like Perry. His After The Fall is uncanny how much his delivery sounds like Frontiers Perry. Wonder if Neal knew about Juan back then?

They have a big following in California, LOL yep I'm one of the thousands (along with a few other MRers) up front singing right along on this fine August night in an Eastvale park. Had been meaning to catch one of their shows for a couple years but just never lined up when I was down there, until this last August, the night right after the Mr Big show......stellar weekend of music for this fan!

hmm... the vocals are not bad, not as good as I hoped, but still...not bad and very doable for a tribute act. But wow...dude...sorry...but the look needs an upgrade.

He's definitely the closest voice out there to Perry with the least pitch issues of any of the tribute singers. I think the wig looks pretty fake, but I have no beef with him dressing like him. They are a tribute band after all, and not a cover band. Even the bass player dresses like Ross used to with the jumpsuits. I think it's pretty cool and nostalgic. Jason sounds much better than Arnel on this stuff IMHO. His voice isn't as strong, but he sounds MUCH more like Perry. I'd pay to see these guys in a heartbeat!

Plus he is just getting his feet wet. They are not even in top form as you only get there from regular gigs. I heard his version of Mother Father was a mother fucker !! Brave to even take that one on. They are releasing the footage from their show in HD with a pro mix as part of their promo pack. Should be interesting.

One minute into the song and he's already resorting to alot of falsetto. Sounds decent, but not the closest thing to Perry, not by a long shot.

Couldn't agree more. The falsetto does not sound good here at all.

Very thin. In fact, I think I got a paper cut from listening.

With coaching, Kelty would be a great singer for Journey. When I say "with coaching" that would require a lot. He's very raw. Excellent voice though.

Juan not sounding too hot here. Hmm. Jason and Jeremey are it as far as I am concerned. Those guys feel the songs. I never feel Jason is just going through the motions and not seeing Frontiers live because then NEVER come to Louisville (you seeing this Jeremey ? Come to Louisville damnit !) I cant say.

No one sounds like Perry but Perry. Jason is more throaty these days but no sign of wear. I want to hear their version of Mother Father from their latest show that was recorded pro and filmed in HD. I heard he knocked that fucker out of the park. I heard him do it in the past and it was Live At Houston good. It was surreal to be honest because I have only heard two people on this planet serve it up right.. Deen done a great job though too. Jason is the only one besides Perry I have heard sing that song (15 years ago) and nail it to the wall. I have not heard Frontiers do that one if they do it... And WHY oh WHY wont any of these guys play people and places !!! Damn I love that song... It has been my favorite Journey tune since I was too little to know who the hell I was hearing on the radio. I just remember that organ intro and how it grabbed me even as a child... I think that was the 1st Journey tune I ever heard. Born in 71 so...

No desire to see DVDs of the bands with replacements or tributes. Hearing them live is good entertainment, but no need to memorialize on tape/video.

Sorry, that's my fault. I have a bad habit of picking a live clip that I was there at, as it always sounds better live than on youtube, and I didn't really have a good listen, moreso recalling how good the show was live. My bad, I've done that on occasion with my other fave vocalists too, I gotta post clips more on the vocal quality not the live vibe of the clip. This isn't the best clip to showcase his vocals for sure. But having seen others clips over the last couple years and live, IMO none sound closer to Escape/Frontiers/ROR Perry than Juan. Songs like After The Fall, Oh Sherrie and Girl Can't Help It would blow you away, amazingly similar tonality and delivery. There were some stellar vocal clips up, but every/all Journey Tribute band clips were pulled from youtube last year when Journey had their hissy fit.

I've heard this guy on video before and he doesn't do it for me (at least on video/recorded playback). But live might be a different story. Who knows.

Thin is the first word that came to my mind too. Still good, though.
