Question about 2006 remasters

I was recently given a copy of Greatest Hits 2 and I really enjoyed the upgrade in quality on those songs. So I replaced those particular songs with the GH2 versions on my iPod. It got me thinking about the 2006 transfers. I never even gave a second thought to buying those when they were released because my mindset was that I already had all of that music. Now, I am thinking of replacing the old versions (1996 or older) with the 2006 remasters.
First, I thought I would ask for the audiophiles out there if the difference in quality is enough to take the time and money to get all of them. Also, I had heard that some of those remastered albums were just reissues, but I'm not 100% sure which albums were just reissued. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Even a layperson like myself can hear the difference in sound quality with the 2006 re-masters compared to the original cd's. The music and vocals are just so crisp & clear...kind of jumps out at you, even on an ordinary cd player. I just picked and choosed a few new albums to buy (mostly for the extra songs added on to the 2-3 of my favorite albums...TBF, Frontiers, Escape). To go back and buy them all would have been too much, lol.
I also re-purchased SP's 2 solo efforts and, man, FTLOSM was like night & day. After listening to the new version, you might as well throw out the original one.

And, oh, I didn't have the originally released versions. They were all the 1996 remasters/re-issues. Still, the 2006 versions were upgraded in sound, for sure. Again, I'm just an ordinary music listener, don't know anything about the process, pro-tools...

I got FTLOSM and yes , it is very much improved from the original audio. Also it has new pics and some bonus tracks including 'if you need me call me '94' which simply kicks ass. Must buy

Just beware... Infinity, Evolution, Captured, and Escape were straight reissues of the 1996 remasters, if I remember correctly. Bonus tracks on the albums were remastered, but the regular album tracks weren't.
