According to TMZ.com, JOURNEY drummer Deen Castronovo was arrested this past Saturday, January 21 in Oregon for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. Deen was booked into Polk County Jail on a number of charges, including coercion, assault, criminal mischief , interfering with making a report and harassment.

Sources tell TMZ.com that some of the charges stem from an altercation that occurred after the alleged physical blowout when Deen's girlfriend ran out of the house to call her father and the musician allegedly grabbed the phone out of her hand and refused to let her contact her dad.

A representative for Deen tells TMZ.com that the incident "was a misunderstanding that should not have been escalated to such a level in the first place."

Deen was released after posting $52,500.00 bail.

Wow...this is some drama - I will hold out on judgment, as should most of us because NONE OF US WERE THERE...however, it doesn't bode well and the level of newsworthy drama the band is having lately is not good publicity at all...as for the comment 'current touring drummer', that could be purely speculative on TMZ. Therefore...it's Neal's fault.

Yep I say the BOULDER is cracked for sure. For the first time ever I say Steve Perry will NEVER do anything again with this band. Sad I like Deen alot.

The 'alleged' physical blowout happened inside the house, the grabbing of the cellphone happened outside from what is being reported. Of course we have to wait and see if any photos pop up. If she went down to the station, they probably will.

Interfering with making a report is the charge dealing with the grabbing of a cellphone; the other stuff, we'll have to see how it pans out.

Honestly, if Neal and Michaele weren't getting their mugs shown on ET every other night, no one would give a shit about what the drummer of Journey was or was not doing.
As it is, the story has hit perezhilton, blabbermouth and everywhere else, coming on the heels of Resonate video news.

He was charged with Assault in the Fourth degree - only a Class A misdemeanor in the state of Oregon. The headline does make it seem much worse. But as Don just said, we'll have to wait and see.

My question for those that might know is why was his bail so high? The other charges appear to be low level or misdemeanor charges as well.

Oregon doesn't have aggravated assault (associated with use of a deadly weapon) so Assault I, II, III handle those types of crimes. Assault IV is what you usually get for using your fists or feet or slamming someone around.

As long as no felony comes out of this, it shouldn't affect Journey. If one does though it could be a problem overseas as some countries like the UK are pretty strict letting in people, even working artists who have a recent conviction. A lot of U.S rappers have gone through that when they have tried to tour England; basically getting turned around at the airport and sent back.
If it's just a misunderstanding, hopefully it all goes away quickly.

True. The criminal mischief charge in the 2nd degree is for damaging someone else's property in an amount exceeding $500 and is a class A misdemeanor, as is interference in making a report and most lower levels of harassment. Coercion is a class C felony. That's the only felony charge I can see so far and am still wondering why they tacked that on. Which also brings me back to the question of that high bail amount for 3 misdemeanors and one felony charge.

In Oregon, domestic violence offenses are treated the same as a serious felony charge, hence the high bail amount.

LOL! Oh Saint John...."I owe my soul to the company store!" He tows that Journey company line pretty religiously doesn't he? If he merely grabbed the phone from the woman's hands, I seriously doubt he'd have to post a $50k bail. That doesn't add to me.

I'm not defending Deen here since I don't know the details and domestic abuse is reprehensible, but don't make the mistake of assuming that bail is always proportionate to the crime since the authorities usually aren't on site to observe the event in person.

The Neal/Michaele romance, the penis pic, and now Deen. All we need is a video of Arnel nibbling on a Jack Russell Terrier and we can call it a day.
