Charice Butchers Faithfully.

I thought the stepped down version Journey has been playing live the last few years was terrible but this takes the cake. Charice is actually a very good singer but where ever she was trying to go with this, it didn't work.

I thought it sounded alright. She sure can sing. The drummer is waaaaaay over-playing his part in the song though.

Looks like the extra money in Charice's bank account has largely been spent at the grocery store.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I think the intent was to look like Kelly Clarkston but it comes off as very butch. I don't think she'll be reappearing on Glee anytime soon looking like that.

Yeah, she has such an incredible voice, and although she doesn't
do a horrible job, I don't like it a bit. Faithfullly requires soaring
vox and w/out them, the song is blah. This song is incredibly boring
when it drags ...tuned down, slowed down, whatever.

I thought Glee was for the gay.
I know we joked, but there's the whole gay teen
revolution thing going on.

Isn't she about legal now? She'd better dump the weight and maybe uncle David can finally hit it.

Don't lie, the kid was cute and if I was a grown gentleman, being that close, I'd probably be waiting for the day.

You should listen to Cain rendition of this song, and what he considers to be singing  It becomes abuntantly clear that even with Cain's brilliant song writing, those fuckers would have been hungry and homeless without Perry's voice. Dude sounds like he's murdering puppies trying to "sing" the song. BRUTAL

You may be confusing Cain with Arnel. Or Perry himself, financially destitute and pursuing an unremarkable career. Despite lackluster album sales, Journey was by all accounts a moderately successful touring act and The Babys weren't doing bad either.

The reality is Perry needed them just as much, if not more than they needed Perry.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

What does Perry's plight in life way back when have to do with Cain's suck ass singing voice?

Gideon wrote:Despite lackluster album sales, Journey was by all accounts a moderately successful touring act

Sure they were. Three people outside of the Bay Area had heard of Journey, before Perry's arrival, and all three of them were probably skanks Neal was boning in various corners of the country

Yep...well on their way to being the next Aerosmith

I've never suggested otherwise. Again, not sure what this has to do with Friga's attempt at "singing" a song made famous by Perry's voice. My larger point was that if you think just any voice could have pulled off what Perry did, have a listen to Friga fucking assassinating a classic Journey tune!

Yep ...Jon's Open Arms and his Faithfully required Perry's instrument
to make them what they became/are. Without Perry's soaring, emotional ...I've
been there, I've lived it, I feel the pain and I want you to feel what
I feel
soulful delivery, those songs were nothing more
than blah ballads w/beautiful melodies.

We all know that Journey was well on their way to losing their recording
contract ...nothing new. We all know that JC was just prolonging the Babys
breakup, they'd already surpassed their peak/hits. Someone else may be able to,
but I can't name one Jon Cain song, let alone a hit, during his tenure.
I feel certain he hits his knees on a regular basis giving thanks for the extra
cheese in Open Arms.

Sure, Perry needed Journey to get his voice out there ...but yeah the rest of the
band were well on their way to superstardom ...m~m~m historical revisionism
at its finest.

Nothing.
It has to do with your point that w/o Perry, Journey would be hungry and homeless.

JFB wrote:Sure they were. Three people outside of the Bay Area had heard of Journey, before Perry's arrival, and all three of them were probably skanks Neal was boning in various corners of the country

I'm simply going by what was said from Behind the Music. They were successful as a live touring act, but just didn't have any mainstream success (i.e. radio).

Regarding Neal's skanks, I call it aggressive promotion.

JFB wrote:Yep...well on their way to being the next Aerosmith

Yep... because one must be the next Aerosmith to achieve any measure of success.

Not just any voice could have pulled off what Perry did, but Perry is hardly the world's only gifted singer. But we both agree that no matter what the number is, Cain isn't one of them.

Many, many singers have covered this song. Nobody (imo) has come closed to duplicating the emotional strength of the originator...though, Deen does a pretty good imitation. Of all Journey's songs, Faithfully is the one that is synonomus(sp?) with SP, for me.
