I read an interview by him a few years back. I would have sworn he siad he left the band, he was tired of always having to play the same songs over and over. Wanted to do something different.

No, I thought that too at first, but then I read an interview from him saying he was fired. He said the band didnt like him wanting to pursue a solo project on the side and two days after the release of his solo record, he was fired by Chicago. I remember Robert Lamm saying that it was long overdue and should have happened 20 years ago, thats just crazy!
