:?: The lid has been kept on tight. I wonder if it has something to do with Rascal Flatts?

CMT? If it's on that channel, how many people besides Country fans will actually be watching?

I can live with NEVER hearing anything from Journey with a twang. Neal and Jon are fucking sell outs if they shit on the classics like this. Now, that would be fracturing the stone! Steve Perry need needs to send the legal team to keep this from happening. He is making money off it for doing nothing, so he may not even care.

Plenty of peeps will be watching it, but the question is what will this actually do for Journey, make cowboys fans of an Asian lead singer, of a band they don't listen to anyway? :D

Country is the current "pop" music.. so this will have as much impact as most all pop music does...

What peeps, the little hardcore group that always watches what ever Arnel does? Being on CBS, FOX or ABC would be one thing but not everyone even has CMT.
Anyway, if they are not launching a cross over album immediately after the show, what's the point? Lionel Ritchie did that and his album which was slowing down turned around and sold half a million copies in four weeks after his country duet special on CBS.

By the way, checked Wal-Mart's best sellers and Eclipse isn't even in the store's top 2000 album sales. Are they even selling that record in the store anymore?

Just trying to see what they are expecting to achieve here, that's all.

No, I meant plenty of peeps, will be watching the show, in general, not because of Arnel.

I see. Well, like you said, if Journey isn't offering a product that sounds country, they aren't going to convert these people. They would rather listen to one of their own sing DSB than go out and and buy a rock/pop album with the original. If it does help move a few more copies of the greatest hits at least a few people will be happy but that doesn't help current Journey.
Now, If the band was touring with Miranda Lambert or someone like that this year it would make sense but that's not the case.

I'll give Journey a B for effort though since they are TRYING to do something a bit different outside of their box.

I would say SOME folks would agree with you, probably the same people that Journey will be serenading on June 6 but if old school Journey can make a some money out of it, it's all good. ^_^

In the span of a few years they went from a pop/rock band to an alleged hard rock band to now potentially dabbling into country/pop waters. Well, if you throw enough shit at the wall, something's bound to stick.

I have to admit, when Def Leppard did this with Taylor Swift, I really thought it would boost Leppard's profile especially with all the great reviews but in the end I think Swift got more out of it than Def Leppard did (besides a multi-platinum DVD). Country fans aren't ones to stray too far from their genre. The only reason Lionel Ritchie's album is doing so well is because of all the OTHER singers on the record (Blake Shelton, Kenny Rodgers, etc.)

Darius Rucker has been very successful as a "crossover" from pop to country. I think today's country fans would be very receptive to the classic era lineup doing something because of SP's ability to "emote" - a huge part of a country love song. I'm not sure how they would embrace the Arnel-led version, there's just something that is not "real" about the current lineup that they might not buy into. And no, it's not about racism - see my first point about Darius, a black man.

I would still love to see a duet between SP and Reba.

I was in Walmart to buy Mercyme's new cd and saw a copy of Eclipse. When I saw it I chuckled! So yes they're still cluttering the place.

Add a little twang and some lap steel guitar, and "After All These Years: would become the country ballad of the decade. Alot of Jon's music could easily go country. Neal is stuck in his own sound tho.

You're spot on, Don. My cousins from Cincinnati listen exclusively to country, and I can't get those fuckers to branch out any farther than Lynyrd Skynyrd. The diehard country fans are very close-minded when it comes to listening to other music. I always thought I could get country lovers into AOR, given some of the similarities between modern country and great AOR (especially when it comes to vocal harmonies). No dice for the most part, unless they are also musicians.

Only given it a couple of listens thus far, but it's pretty good. It's called "The Hurt & the Healer"

I don't think Journey can do country, not even country light, forget about real country with some serious twang. I think they could write country, and other artists could perfom it and it would be great stuff, but they could never record it and sell it themselves. First, Arnel, and not even Perry have that kind of voice or style. It just wouldn't work. Second, Neal's preferred style of playing won't fit a country song. I think Neal probably could do some if that fast finger picking style and play with a cleaner more minimalistic sound, but not for long. It's not what Neal does.

But Rascal Flats isn't really country anyway. For pop it is a bit nasally and there is the distant sound pedal steel, but in just about every other way its just AOR pop music and not too far away from the home turf for Journey.

Journey doing country would be the last nail in the coffin.
If they need to branch out do R&B or blues, go back to their roots.

It's not about Journey doing country. It's all about Rascal Flatts doing rock. If any record anywhere sells, then Journey sells vicariously through that. (Look what it did for Tom Cochrane.) If it's on a RF album, some CMT compilation, or possibly a soundtrack, who cares. All Journey is doing is keeping their music alive. And it might net a little bit (smidgeon) of press for their summer tour. Nothing wrong with that.

Journey never went 'hard rock.' There are rock tracks on Eclipse, but it's not like they became Metallica or somethin...
