I enjoyed it. They certainly got a lot of pub throughout the evening.

Good award show, too. Very genuine and fun.

Wow, IMO, it seems like Arnel was over-singing.. Couldn't get into him at all in that clip, though the band sounded good, and damn, Cain even smiled!

I remember the time Led Zeppelin was on "Hee Haw".

Cain said the reason the Crossroads show collaboration never happened was because of when Arnel hurt his knee last summer. Doesn't sound like they'll be revisiting that idea anytime soon.

They're scared. Crossroads would force them to stretch out beyond their comfort zone and they simply can't allow that to happen.

I think they did a little last night and it should prove to them they need to do more of it more often. Triple header with Benatar and Loverboy isn't going to bring them anything new this year. They looked like they were having fun. Like they were when JSS fronted them. The high notes from the lead singer are certainly less important if the band sounds good and everyone is having a blast. The crowd was super into it and the twitter comments if you search #CMTawards are very favorable.

I said this in the other thread. Arnel was AWFUL in that clip. No annunciation. Vocal tone was horrible. Sour notes toward the end. Third rate singer at best.

How anyone can say he was good is beyond me.

That seems like just a silly comment. We've all heard what these guys can do. I'm sure if they could put together whatever they wanted and they would be just fine. Neal or Jon don't strike me as two guys worried about their ability or comfort zone, from a playing perspective. Maybe from a sales and fans perspective, but not ability.

That's funny, that awful performance convinced a Journey-hater to buy their Greatest Hits CD, Revelation & Eclipse last night after the awards. I had texts last night saying how Journey's new lead singer sounded great and how impressed they came away with the band. Especially country fans, they can be brutal

I don't see why Crossroads would be a problem. If Joe Elliot can go out there and warble through it, then Arnel should not have a problem. (Minor pronunciation issues aside).

Not really, dude. Hate on it all you want, but the time constraints and the need to duet with a country-singer on one song that was severely edited doesn't do any type of performance justice. As limited as it may have seemed, I thought Arnel hit his spots and put on a good show to the audience. It was a fun piece full of energy and the crowd seemed really into it. What does everybody want from this band? Push 1981 out of your brain and maybe things won't be so "horrendous." Hey I have an idea, if you want PERFECT, lets mime live fucking shows and sing along to the Greatest Hits Album (oh wait..) People like you simply expect too much. It was fine, I enjoyed it. The Super Bowl in '08 had its problems performing DSB. This certainly wasn't that. This was a solid performance standing next to different styles of music. At least their still performing on a big stage and doing things beyond their expectations that was 5 years ago.

Ohhh-kay, enough of the agenda.

Go read comments from the VAST...VAST majority of people who loved last night's performance and made them more aware of Journey.

This is melodicrock.com, the CENTER of the world's greatest music ears  Journey's young audience has been bigger than EVER over last few years. This will do nothing but solidify that even further. I was listening to Journey relentlessly when I was 17 years of age, way before the craze of "GLEE" emerged. My friends had no idea who Journey even was. Those SAME friends in the present day work the SHIT out of tunes like DSB and attend Journey concerts yearly with their groups of buddies that range from 19-24 years of age. You'd be a fucking liar if you can sit there and say their CMT performance could/will HURT the band. That, or your simply what you stated above, a grouchy HATER with an agenda.

I know it. I've seen Journey's crowds get bigger and younger the last decade but you wouldn't know if it you listened to some of the folks with agendas on here.

I don't expect anyone to match 1978 - 81.

But I DO expect a lead singer with some sort of talent.

Take this kid, here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0HGri7RmN4

He has more talent in his finger than Arnel has.

And this guy, Marc Martel:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dREKkAk628I

Arnel can't touch those two in the vocal arena. At All.

Jeff Scott Soto blew Arnel away with the Journey material. I have no "agenda". Arnel is just a hack vocalist and has never impressed me at all.

There are talented vocalists out there. TONS of them. Arenel isn't one of them.

Continue your love fest for Arnel. It doesn't bother me at all. The dude simply can't sing well.

Arnel can't carry his socks when it comes to vocal talent.

Please - take off the Arnel glasses and see clearly.

Arnel may not be the GOD of vocalists, but the the dude was homeless at one point of his life, lived in a 3rd world country where English wasn't even his first language. Going from singing in bars, scavenging up .50 cents a night to singing in front of thousands, night in & night out in a foreign country with a MEGA-ROCK LEGEND band like Journey is not made for a "hack vocalist." Sorry, but your "agenda" screams it all when you say Arnel has never impressed you at all and that he "simply" can't sing well.

You don't have to like the guy, but to say Arnel can't sing well is nothing short of blasphemes and he is WELL AWARE of people like you. And for the record, Soto never came remotely close to blowing Arnel away with Journey material. The band didn't even sound like Journey with him at the helm. Arnel is a great direction for the band and does his job well, deal with it. That or stay in 1981 and continue to find the better singers out there than Arnel Pineda. You say it's a love fest when it's clearly a form of trolling HATE for Arnel than anything else. Admit it, you hated the performance before it even began

Easily done.

Here's another one from Boyce Avenue - DSB.

Much better than Arnel:

Talent is talent. A good performance is a good performance.

I hated it 5 seconds into it - it was a train wreck. I gave it a shot, and it was horrible.

Your "Pity Following" of him is almost admirable...

Aside from Martel, these other two are not doing anything that vocally challenging. That is not to say they aren't talented though. Playing drums well and singing is not a very easy thing to do.

Are you kidding me about the Soto comment?

There was more excitement brewing with Soto than this guy has produced. MANY, many of us were stoked about a studio album with Soto and the guys.

A quick YOUTUBE search of Soto's performances with Journey will show one thing, and one thing only.

Sensational!

I couldn't care less about challenging. They are natural born vocalists. It is effortless for them. They are pitch perfect and have great tone.

I get none of that from Pineda.
