Gary LeVox Of Rascal Flatts On The Shake Weight, Acting And Journey Without Steve Perry

......Gary also discusses closing out the CMT Music Awards a few weeks back with Journey. So does he feel like it’s the same Journey now that Steve Perry is gone? “Arnel (Pineda) is just amazing… it’s just scary how much he sounds like Steve Perry.”.......

Gary is right. Arnel's aways been good like that. Steve Perry is just one out of a handfull of lead vocalists that Arnel has been awesome at covering.

Perry's shadow never fades. It's always about how much Pineda sounds like Steve, never about Arnel sounding like himself. But it pays the bills, right?

Comparing Arnel to Perry is like comparing NASCAR to Formula One... both cars go fast, but in completely different ways.....
Arnel has pipes... but none of the nuance of Perry, singing-wise... and thats not to blame or slam Nelly either... he simply didn't have the musical upbringing Perry did... so IMHO comparing him to Perry is not fair...

Well, there are those who say he naturally sounds like Perry but does that mean when he covers Bon Jovi, he sounds like SP singing a Jovi tune or when he covers U2, does he sound like SP covering Bono?

I think all the "covering" is sort of Arnel's Achilles Heel.. in that he's never developed as his own singer... and learned some habits along the way that really aren't his own.. all that covering and imitating has hindered him somewhat.. hopefully he has enough time with Journey to finally explore his own voice... and develop his gift to be recognized as Arnel period. Not "Arnel, who sounds like Perry... "

Considering where he has come from, I have to believe he is financially secure for the rest of his life. He's a hometown boy-done good, in the eyes of his peers. Is he successful by his own measure and that of his countrymen? Probably more so than his wildest dreams ever would have taken him.

If he has his shields on, isolating him from all the negativity that gets thrown his way, I'm sure he feels pretty damn good in his skin. I would, if I were him.

That's true, but more so than other's depending on who it is doing the job.

Theoretically.....possible. Naturally just means he can sound like Perry with minimal effort.

Gary and Rascal Flatts are an amazing and versatile band with quite a few surprises up their sleeves. This one took me off guard but it really grows on you, I encourage everyone to give it a chance:
