So I am definitely not into the post Perry stuff. I buy it and listen to it and then it goes on the shelf. I rarely hear anything past TBF. For me, the writing went down a notch, etc. For whatever reason, just doesn't really appeal to me all that much.

That said, I happen to see some of the Live in Manila show on TV last night. And of course I have listened to the new CD a couple times. What I tend to forget, emotionally, is how great a player Neal is. I know it from an intellectual point, but because I am not really connecting with this iteration of the band (and because of some of Neal's lame off-stage crap), I am missing out on connecting with Neal's playing. The guy is really one of the greatest players I've ever heard still to this day.

I watched and heard the first 2 tracks. I had never seen the show before. The mix had to be the worst non-bootleg I've ever heard. Arnel was so low in the mix you could hardly hear him. The keys in "Only the Young" were way out of whack. Absolutely horrible. Neil came through clear as a bell, so I'm sure he was happy.

The first song I saw (forgot the name, song off of Revelation) clearly had Arnel overdubbed. His voice was not live on that one. There was a clear distinction between that song and the next. But I know there are always a lot of overdubs on these types of shows for most bands. Just the way it is.

I love the setlist of this show...just not my favorite energy wise. The download fest show is more my style.

I don't hear or think there are any vocal overdubs or post-production fixes on the Manilla or Revelation dvd. Perhaps Andrew can confirm? I think it's 100% live. Arnel delivers.

I think it was "What I needed". Whatever it was, it was not live. I'd be willing to bet on it. BUT - I know this happens a lot and i am not faulting anyone. One of my favorite DVD's is Kenny Loggins from the Grand Canyon. I spoke with a studio keyboard player that overdubbed on it and he said that thing was more overdubbed than not. You can really tell when you then hear the same songs from a different performance and it's nothing like it.

It sounded a lot like the boot/Youtube clips at the time, so I'd be shocked as hell if there were any post-production magic in play on the vocals.

I don;t have a way of listening to it now, but I was sitting there just thinking ok, that's not live. If you think about the way people sing live, it just didn't have that. And then the next song, Edge of the Blade, had all the markings of a live vocal. In any case, that wasn't really the point of this. Neal sounded really great on it.
