Journey is kind of non-political, so I guess they just like Chicken sammiches. :D

Nonsense NS uses http://www.prsguitars.com/ and his Gibson ties are not the reason for this booking.

Nonsense. Try a little sarcasm...although I'm sure(even though he can be such an idiot) he could be po'd enough and smart enough to actually get a bit involved this time.

But... http://www2.gibson.com/news-lifestyle/features/en-us/neal-schon-0224-2012.aspx

And besides the PRS guitars/Gibson connection..we all know "Schon currently endorses Gibson guitars, and has a limited edition signature Les Paul model entitled the "Neal Schon Signature Model Custom Les Paul", of which only 35 were made according to the Gibson Custom website, (80 according to Neal Schon's website.)[5] He has previously employed Godin guitars on his 1995 solo album Beyond the Thunder, and more recently uses Paul Reed Smith guitars."(Wiki.)

Searches for "Schon" at the Gibson site will also bring you to the PRS site.

etc etc..It's not that far-fetched to think he's doing this for political reasons..on the Gibson issue.

To Amanda..that could be another reason- trying to get in w/out crashing this time. Thinking Romney will be the winner.

Don't you think that entertainers ought to be able to perform for either or even both sides of the aisle regardless of what political views the members have? It would be pretty stupid if Journey were unwilling to play a big event where people want to hear their music just because they were republican or democrat. It's only rock-n-roll--let's keep it that way! 8)

Besides a bit of a Gibson connection there too  he isn't a fan of the IRS and I just read he sued the Texas Democratic Party over some Dennis Kucinich ballot issue back in 2004.

But I think he just doesn't care...it's more for the vets than anything..

My guess is someone at the RNC said "Hey, let's get JOURNEY to perform this year!" and someone else said, "Yeah! Let me get in touch with their management!"

The management then said, "okay, they are free, they will charge $250,000" or whatever, and then the RNC committee that handled that sort of thing said, "Great, let's check our budget and see if we can make it happen?"

Then they crunched some numbers and said, "Hey, this is going to work, we're going to get Journey to perform this year!"

And then they signed contracts and got deposits and all that sort of crap and the band will end up playing at the convention.

A very bland and boring set of circumstances, but that's what happens. Same thing as if Google wanted them to play at their annual convention or Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. The fact that it's a political party hiring them really doesn't change a thing.

While I'm sure that's how it went(although with Michaele being in the mix..)...and usually goes...they wouldn't be doing so if they were anti-Romney. And maybe..just maybe...they're sticking up for the Gibson dude. Maybe that's how it went- he/Gibson contacted Journey and it went from there.

Same with what Majestic said(and I'm sure Neal and the gang and Willie would say what you said there, if asked). It'd be nice if they all played for both sides..but you're not going to see Kid Rock or Ted Nugent playing for the DNC...or if they did, it'd be considered switching sides. Same for Bon Jovi or _________ on the other side.

Ha..
Gibson Guitar and The Heritage Foundation will also have hospitality tour buses on hand. "Liberty Plaza is excited that we have the opportunity to honor our nation's heroes and celebrate the sacrifices they made for the freedom we have today," said Ron Bonjean, spokesman for the group.

SKYNYRD, ADKINS, KID ROCK LINE UP FOR RNC CONVENTION: Liberty Plaza Events has signed on musical acts Lynyrd Skynyrd (Aug. 26), Trace Adkins (Aug. 28) and Kid Rock (Aug. 29) for the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Other artists such as Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Randolph and Night Ranger may also appear. There will also be another major act for the closing night "Wheels Up" party that’s still to be announced. Sponsors include the National Energy Institute, Amway, Southern Company; the American Action Network and Citizens United. Liberty Plaza's production partner is PRG, the concert production and touring company responsible for lighting U2's 360 and Madonna's current tour.

Elton John played Rush Limbaugh's wedding and they couldn't be on further sides of the political fence.

Well, the difference being that Kid Rock and Ted Nugent are pretty outspoken in their political beliefs. Same with Bon Jovi or Bruce Springsteen or John Mellencamp, etc etc. Those are guys that don't have any question about their politics carrying over into their music. Journey isn't like that at all. I have no idea what the band individually or as a whole stand for politically. I can't see Neal getting bent out of shape about Gibson being fined by this administration and deciding to "show them" by playing for the RNC convention. Reality is, who knows...I can only offer what little first hand experience I have from witnessing the band in action. Which was, when Hillary Clinton used DSB in her campaign ad in 2007 as a spoof on the Sopranos finale, I was in the room when the band and Irving Azoff were discussing it. The conversation went something like, "what about this Hillary Clinton ad?" "Cool, I haven't seen it, what is it about?" "It's a spoof on the Sopranos ending." "Hey that's pretty neat!" One guy in the band said "Don't you think letting her use it would make people think we were supporting her campaign?" and that was answered with a general, "naw, that wouldn't happen..." I realize that's not indicative whatsoever of the band's political beliefs or agenda, but also a good case for not reading too much into the gig for the RNC convention. But who knows.

According to EJ, they have actually become friends and he actually believes most of Limbaugh's antics are truly "for entertainment purposes only."

Yes..I know there's a difference. That's why I said it'd be considered switching sides for them if they were to play for "the other side".
I think if they had responded to the ""Don't you think letting her use it would make people think we were supporting her campaign?" with- "Who cares?- we DO support her campaign!" or something similar..it'd be a bit different. It's actually like they would have been embarrassed if people had thought that.

Neal can't get bent out of shape..he's too small. But I don't think it has anything to do with "showing them". It could have just been another reason to go ahead with it, especially if Gibson is the one that requested or suggested Journey.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised if the band members, or most of them..are actually right-leaning. You for sure can't blame them for not being fans of the current administration.
