Has anyone seen perform live lately? I'm hoping to attend the fest simply because I love Italian food and I never mind hearing some Journey tunes live. I also like some tunes on the Arrival album, and I hope it's not just a Journey's Greatest Hits setlist being played.

Voice is still hit or miss, but Steve puts on a good show.

Go see the show. I can guarantee you will enjoy it. The youtubes after the fact are what they are, but in the moment with the song pumping through the PA system any limitations vocally aren't nearly as noticable.

Ed is right. Steve plays a more daring set than Journey, at this point.

One of these days you are going to hear this radio promo:
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
Sunday, August 4th, Journey comes to Walnut Creek Amphitheater with special lead vocalist....
(Silence)
Well here's the thing folks, . we're not sure who the lead vocalist is going to be yet. For all we know it could Neal's HOE, I mean, lady friend. We just don't know.
We'll just have to read the Journey program after the show starts to find out.

Awesome! We're going for sure unless it rains. I hope to get a CD booklet signed as well. I'd guess he's cool with fans, too.

There's a link to send them info if they have wrong info, I let them know that singer has been gone 6 years.
Great show from Steve & his band!

Just got home from the Augeri Band show. Not a huge crowd for an unusually chilly Friday night, but Steve delivered. He & the band hung out at the table signing stuff and taking pics after the show. Got my Arrival and Generations booklets signed. What a genuinely nice guy he seems to be.

Separate ways

Arnel has a hill to climb with that one, so I'm surprised it's in there.

Kiss Me Softly was solid vocally. He tried to play his acoustic guitar during the song as well, but I think the tech got it working in the last :30 of the song!
I forgot to mention that something blew for the guitarist and keyboard player early in the show. I think it was during the 1st or 2nd song.
Be Good to Yourself sounded great. That's always been one of my favorite Journey tunes. Stone In Love was cool to hear as well!
He has two background singers in his band, but honestly, I couldn't really hear them much. They had some stage moves similar to En Vogue, etc, with their rhythmic dancing and all.

You would think after all he's been through, SA would shy away from the dirty dozen, but he seems to be tackling them head-on.
As a weekend warrior, it's prolly much easier on the voice. Would love to see him re-arrange a few Generations songs (not Butterfly) and throw them in the set.

I don't know why he is doing them at all. I would think he would want to carve out his own musical niche, other than Perry's replacement in Journey. He didn't write those songs. He is a Journey tribute band at this point. He should really move on. It's time.

He plays 1-3 new tracks. I think that's pretty good. More than what Journey plays on some nights. I just don't think his voice is cut out for songs like BGTY. Even Perry made it sound shitty. SA is not really a tenor.

Don't get me wrong, but I think people using this line against Steve or any other "former" lead singer of a band is ridiculous. Face it, many of us like SA, but without his time in Journey virtually NOBODY would know about him. The people going to see him WANT to hear him sing the Journey catalog whether he wrote the songs or not. Not to mention, any promoter wants him to go out and sing those songs, so even if he chose not to, nobody would book him unless he sang Journey. So, he sings the hits, some of his Journey era tracks and a couple solo songs, who really cares!

Saw him all 3 nights and he got better each night. Some technical issues on night 1 but like somone said....he puts on a great show!!
I personally don't have a problem with the set list. I would love to hear more of "his" journey stuff but I understand the masses want to her the dirty dozen. I love that he is doing his own songs as well. He did a brand new one last night and it was fantastic!!

How many people will go and see Arnel in 12 years when he's doing the solo band thing?

You need to ask this question on a Pinoy forum... when Nelly retires its gonna be to the P.I., not the USA...

By then I will be retired on the coast, in the Philippines. That's the plan. I'll go see him.

His last North American solo tour fell apart at the end, and that was with real Filipino music stars. The guy will be performing at his own club in the Philippines rather than touring (providing the club doesn't go under, business has been tough the last few months from what I have heard).

????
These were charity events, not meant as a propulsion to the moon, if ya get me drift. Business is tough in the Philippines and I can understand he can't be there to manage his club while on tour. Any more asshattery you'd like to shart with us, Don? Were listening. ..... Are you always so vulturistic, lying in wait for something good to die?

I'm just telling it like it is. Charity acts or not, a tribute singer with an accent like his is never going to thrive here in the states. And if you would have looked into it, only a small part of the proceeds from that tour went to charity.
Dude, I get it. Your wife is Filipino and you want to be the cool white guy who supports her fellow countryman. The thing is, I've lived there and I go back there even now. I know what the scene is (construction is booming in the P.I right now) and I have a grasp of how things operate.
The asshattery is for those who talk out of their ass and believe me, I try not to say anything unless I'm fairly certain of what I speak (with Gideon around, that's more or less a necessity).
I'm not always right but I'm close to the target more times than not.
Vulturistic? Sure, I can roll with that. It's a music forum whose claim to fame has always been giving the anti-fan a platform equal to the hardcore one. Everyone who participates here knows that.

Great to see SA still have "ON" nights. He went for this and tackled it quite hard. Proud of him. He nailed it.
