Pretty cool, I saw Journey is playing at Budokan Hall in March, wonder who is opening for them? Its been a while since Journey has played a larger venue in Japan. I believe Journey did play in Japan in 1987 with Perry, does anyone know if the venue was budokan? I believe the last time Journey played at Budokan was 1983 for the Frontiers tour, which was also televised.

Japan Dates:
March 11, 2013 - Tokyo, JP - Budokan

March 12, 2013 - Osaka, JP - Grand Cube

March 14, 2013 - Hiroshima, JP - Shi Bunka Koryu Kaikan

March 15, 2013 - Nagoya, JP - Shi Kokaido

March 17, 2013 - Kanazawa, JP - Kagekiza

Journey seems to have been gaining some steam in the past few years. Pretty damn good that they can attract large audiances in place like this. :D

With ticket prices where they are these days, think they are making more money from touring than when SP was with them? What I love about these out of country / over seas concerts is that people elsewhere seem to be more open to hearing deeper cuts and not all dirty dozen.
BTW, where has Don, or resident numbers guy?

Looks like a good week to be in Japan. All these places are easily accessible via Shinkansen.

Im guessing they made alot more with Perry, even though they are pretty popular again today. Even back in 1987/88, when their popularity was waning just a bit, they were still selling out venues 98% of the time, and averaging $250,000-$300,000 per night.

Journey is going to see a different Japanese crowd than they did in 1983 at Budokan. They don't sit there with their hands in their laps anymore.

It's still very organized and behaved over there. The most they will see are some Japanese dressed up in rocker outfits, everyone waving those chem-lights and fists moving to the beat of the music. Japanese authorities don't fuck around with derelicts, even at concerts.

It's been my point over the past five years now that Journey hasn't seen a popularity surge like they have now with AP since the days SP was singing in the band.

Any idea how well Journey will sell tickets at Budokan, since they havent played there since 1983? Is there show there being advertized at all? Any excitement or hype about them coming?

It seems like the Japanese fans have always been pretty supportive for Journey, even without Perry.

From what I know, they are into Journey in Japan. They even released a special addition of the "Revelation" album over there back in '08. I'm saying "special addition" only because it had an extra track on the album that wasn't offered on the U.S. "Revelation" release. I even purchased a half dozen of these Japanese "Revelation" albums just to send to various friends of mine who remember AP back in the 80's when I would get them to come to the club and film when I was not able to myself because of the involvement I had on stage with them. During my trips to Japan in '08, I saw that there was lots of public discussion in Japan on both tv and radio over there in regards to AP joining Journey and how much he sounds like SP. I know more how it was in '08 than now because back then, I was traveling there many times per year up until about '10. Not sure how it is now though.

From the website below looks like on the RoR tour they played a couple
venues in Japan..
But no confirmed dates or venue names...
Wonder if one of them was at the Budokan venue?

http://www.journey-tribute.com/journey/ ... _past.html

Jan. ??, 1987 Japan
Jan. ??, 1987 Japan

Info above is incorrect...guess they didn't do Japan on RoR...Thanks :D
