A travesty. I'm a fan of D.P. but really??

Not exactly "opening"...they're getting a full 90-minute show...they're just playing first. It's a co-headline...

I wonder if it is Def Leppard Tour circa 2006 "co-headline" where Journey's back video screens played Windows 98 screensavers and Def Leppard got pyro and an expanded stage, or co-headline co-headline. It was billed as co-headlining in 2006 and both bands played equal sets, too, but it was clearly NOT co-headlining.

the guy that sings most of Purples hits is still with them and most in Australia (as well as most of the world outside NA, think Journey is a one hit wonder)

Journey are doing far too well right now to be opening for anyone, unless John Lennon and George Harrison come back to life, and they reunite with Paul and Ringo. Then Journey can open a few shows for them.

Ironically, Deep Purple are my brother's favorite band.

Everyone says that Ian Gillan's voice is nothing compared to what it used to be, which IMO wasn't good in the first place. Blackmore is no longer in the band. Lord was no longer in the band even before his death. Yeah, I know that Paice and Glover are still there. But Journey should not be opening for them. Not even co-headlining.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think the bands are co-headlining in Australia. Journey is simply not known there. I doubt it would be that way here state side. here in the USA, no way is Journey playing second fiddle to anyone they tour with.

bingo....Andrew said a while back that Steve Perry is better known for singing Oh Sherrie in Australia than being the lead singer for Journey. They just didn't hit it big over there.

The Aussies might also be in for an awakening and get their hats blown off, once they hear Journey live. Me thinks that will be that way it will be. I think, secretively, Andrew thinks and hopes that too.

I wish this bill would tour America. I love Deep Purple, but they don't hit the states that much anymore. I hope they get a new album out soon as Rapture of the Deep was a very solid release.

Since they are on Andrew's home turf, any chance he can do a big piece on the band, similar to when he flew to LA and covered JSS with Journey?

I'm hoping the band is Deep Purple that he has a big piece on.

I actually posted something earlier that stated this would be a joke to have DP headline.

There are plenty of Journey fans in Australia and that will be shown after everybody leaves once they finish there set.

DP are just plain boring...they were a great band but there is no energy there anymore and A Pineda will have about 10000 screaming filipinos supporting him considering how many filipinos there are in Australia alone.

I think you could be right. I think Andrew will be wrong about what he perceives as a lack of love for Journey. I bet people go crazy for them, once they take the stage and a couple tunes come out. Not just the Filipinos either.

I wonder if you are actually right. Not that Journey aren't great live, but, Journey and Deep Purple are of different musical genres so it is very easy for me to imagine a DP fan not digging the Journey sound, no matter how tightly it is presented, and vice-versa.

My friends and I will be going to see Journey, not Deep Purple. There are quite a few Journey fans here in Oz

Aussies are open minded generally and appreciate musical talent in different forms. It will work well.

Horse poop. Yes, there are plenty of cult fans as there is for the genre in general. But DP are far more known here. Journey have had one hit. Even Steve Perry is better known as a solo artist here.

i'd love to go, but theres no way i can afford to book for 2 shows in one week. Black Sabbath i simply cant miss!!!

I just hope that Journey have the sense to NOT play Open Arms, Faithfully or any other ballads during those shows. There are a lot of DP fans that that will claim that Journey suck if they hear a bunch of ballads or other lite rock songs. Journey should play a harder Rocking set with plenty of guitar. If Neal really puts on a show, he could gain a lot of new fans? That's the only upside of them doing shows with DP, IMO.

Like I mentioned, Deep Purple are my brother's favorite band. He's four years older than me. Journey were his favorite band originally, but over time he started liking them a lot less, and DP became his favorite band. If you ask me, his taste in music went down hill over the years. Not that I don't like anything at all about DP. They're talented musicians. But I think that they are overrated in many respects. And I hate Ian Gillan's singing. My brother loves Gillan's singing, and says that Steve Perry's voice is very annoying at times. IMO, Ian Gillan isn't much more that a screamer.

IMO, Slaves And Masters with Joe Lynn Turner was DP's best album.

That's what people thought about the Def Leppard booking. They skipped Open Arms for a while at the start, and then people bitched and it was back in, as usual.

Outside the States during their heyday Journey was never as popular as they were on the home turf
Today they are doing fairly well abroad .. maybe even better than back then with bignose at the helm.

OK, I'll add that if John Bonham comes back to life and reunites with Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, that Journey can also open a few shows for them.

Maybe Journey wanted to open for the best, but because they were going to be touring with Motley Crue they decided to get equipment from the best.
