Journey continues to announce new tour dates and new tour partners after their current US/Canadian tour with Pat Benatar and Loverboy ends. Journey will share the bill with Deep Purple in Australia in February and March, then they'll head to the United Kingdom to team up with Whitesnake. Journey guitarist Neal Schon says tours are the best way to introduce fans to newer Journey songs from thier 2 most recent albums, "Eclipse" and "Revelation".

Neal plays all the guitars and bass on his 7th solo release entitled "The Calling" and is joined by original Journey drummer Steve Smith on the all instrumental cd. Guitar Player magazine says of Schon's symphonic-styled effort: "Less-blessed composers and guitarists can now take a moment to cry..."

I understand where Schon is coming from, but at the same time it's disappointing to hear Journey isn't planning a new album yet. Eclipse is 18 months old and they stopped playing it this summer. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ready for some new Journey next year. I think that's what separates Journey from many of their peers is that they are active. It keeps the old stuff more vibrant, too.

Having said that...I'm digging Schon's solo effort (Irish Field...MAMA) and looking forward to his other album in the can.
