Perryaoke Syndrome

"Journey’s lead singer Arnel Pineda has been given the all-clear from his doctors after receiving medical treatment for a severe laryngeal and esophageal inflammation, which forced the band to postpone several shows earlier this month."

Looks like the notorious Perryaoke Syndrome has struck again. Anyone who tries to sing the Perry/Journey catalog for any length of time will inevitably fall victim to throat and vocal chord issues. Why do you think Perry threw in the towel himself? I'm sure that if Jeremey would have taken the Perry helm he would have had vocal issues by now too. You can't shriek like that every night for months on end without it taking a toll.

It's just a matter of how long before another Tapegate, and then the search on YouTube for the next Perryaoke singer.

Didn't someone mention on here somewhere that Neal himself said that once AP is gone, that's it, it's over for Journey? I thought I read someone saying he said this in an interview recently. Does anyone else recall this, or is it just me?

Sure Neal said that. But Neal says a lot of things....

As for Arnel, notice the band was actually willing to postpone dates for him. They've never done that before. Maybe they ARE learning.

That says alot in regards to how they care about AP and what he actually has been bringing to the table for the band. Don't bite the hand that feeds you or kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I'm betting it was AP who put his foot down.. not Neal...

Could be, but if Neal was the ruthless band leader that some say he has been in the past, wouldn't you think he'd just get another singer if it was simply AP putting his foot down and not Neal?

i tend to agree with you...i think his management saw all too well what happened to augeri and made sure to protect arnel's interests and health. the band needed him...

Yeah, he said the same thing about Augeri, "this is the last version of Journey", or whatever.

If Arnel quits before the band is ready, they'll replace him.

I'm sensing a change within the band itself. While Neal may want to tour 'til his dying day, Jon may not. Moving to Nashville... assuming the helm of his daughter's career. I don't think his priorities will be the same as Neal's or Ross'.

Yeah, well I recall Dean saying he and Augeri were brothers and if Steve goes, he goes. See how that worked out.

He'd be quite flattered, I'm sure ...the credit
he's been given, gotta be walkin' round w/the big
head. Why, Bobby was just praising him again the
other night. Always gotta be some pioneers, eh!

Deen would have taken the helm if it wasn't such a throat shredder.

Deen always said he isn't a frontman and doesn't want to be.

Can't blame him. They don't seem to have much longevity in his band.
