Los Angeles, CA and Cleveland, OH (December 11, 2012) – At a press conference today at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist and 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Flea announced the list of performer inductees and Ahmet Ertegun Award recipients for induction. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2013 are:

Performer Category:
· Heart
· Albert King
· Randy Newman
· Public Enemy
· Rush
· Donna Summer

Ahmet Ertegun (non performer) Award:
· Lou Adler
· Quincy Jones

Scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2013, the 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. This marks the first time since 1993 that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on the West Coast. The ceremony will again be open to the public, as it was in 2009 and 2012 in Cleveland.

Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said, “We are thrilled to announce this year’s class of inductees, which again represents the broad, compelling and significant definition of rock and roll.”

The induction ceremony will broadcast on HBO on Saturday, May 18 at 9pm ET/PT. Said Michael Lombardo, President of HBO Programming, "We are excited to team up once again with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for what is sure to be an incredible evening of one-of-a-kind performances.”

Ticket Purchase Information
Tickets to the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony go on sale to the public on Friday, January 25th. For more ticketing information, visit rockhall.com. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Members will have the opportunity to purchase advance sale tickets to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2013 Inductions. Memberships must be active as of January 1st, 2013. Some restrictions apply. Visit rockhall.com or reference the Rock Hall Membership e-newsletter for details.

The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performer inductees were chosen by more than 500 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2013 Nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1987.

For the first time in its history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame offered fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. The public was able to visit rockhall.com, hbo.com, CNN.com and rollingstone.com to cast votes for who they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, comprised a “fans’ ballot” that was tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2013 inductees.

All inductees are ultimately represented in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is a nonprofit organization that exists to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll music. It carries out this mission both through its operation of a world-class museum that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets this art form; and through its library and archives, as well as its educational activities.

The reason Journey is not in is because the Hall is waiting to see if and when Perry ever decides to sing again. So, they will continue to be snubbed until they feel Perry is ready to join the band on stage again. Looks like Journey won't be getting in.

That's quite an eclectic mix. So...what does "Rock-n-Roll" mean, exactly??

Sadly.....jack shit! It's a coveted turd pile. There must be a better club to be inducted into! Maybe someone needs to enact a "real hall of fame" instead of this. The R&R HOF has shit stains on it's walls.

I think you're giving them too much credit. The decision makers have vilified the Perry-led Journey for decades. They aren't going to reverse their assertions. No one likes to eat crow, and it is for that reason that Journey will never be admitted to the RRHOF.

Jan Wenner (founder of Rolling Stone Magazine AND the R&R HOF) hates 80's rock... when he dies a slew of 80's bands will get in..

Wonder if Wenner leaves it in his will to let none of that graduating class in the RnRHOF...& not to even nominate them....

Or his dying wish to never allow Journey into the hall will be honored by the other members, lol...

Yeah. He won't let Chicago in either (despite 140 million records sold and a 'dirty 40' roster of hits). Peter Cetera saying that he read ROLLING STONE all the time, mostly when having a shit likely cemented that.

Its unbelievable that Chicago is still not in the hall yet. These guys arent 80s rock, they had had hits in every decade since the 60s, and are still not voted in. Its nice to see Heart get in and I had a feeling that they would get in way before Journey ever would. It always helps when you have contributed to paving the way for women in the rock music. Even though im not a big Hall and Oates fan, thats another one that is just unimaginable they are still not in....especially when your the best selling duo of all time.

The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame... if you can actually call it that without laughing your *ss off, is nothing but a joke. What a waste... you wanna call it the Music Hall of Fame...fine. Rock N Roll... Nope. Putting aside all the acts, performers etc... that have not a dam thing to do with Rock N Roll, how does a band like Journey who has the most downloaded song in the history of digital music, has sold as many albums, had as many hits as they have, with one of the greatest singers of all time not get nominated and Madonna, Public Enemy and Donna Summer... the Queen of Disco! etc... get in?!? W.... T... F....? This is why the RRHOF is such a joke. I'd *itch-slap the people who do the voting if I ever met them! Grrrrr... :x There are soooo many Rock acts that get snubbed by these morons.

Honestly, it's better that Journey never gets in.

I performed on their stage in 2010 with my school band. I even bought Infinity, Evolution and Frontiers from their gift shop. . .

And even the cashier who sold me the albums acknowledged it's a sham. I found it quite amusing actually.

What is this about "for the 1st time in history, fans get to cast a ballot..."? Surely, bands like Kiss, Journey, Boston, Chicago...would have gotten a lot of votes. Maybe that's how Heart and Rush got in this year...when in the past, it's the funky groups...and pop/disco/rap artists (egads!) who are not "r-n-r."

Can a Donna Summer fan give me a bit more insight into her career and why she's inducted? I get that she sadly passed away, but I know very little about her career.

When the Bee Gees got inducted, I understood it. They were huge as a result of disco, but they also had a career of hits on either side of the disco era, produced other artists, wrote hit singles for other artists etc.

Donna Summer, I don't get, but I'll freely admit my ignorance.

Well, she's not known as the Queen of Disco for nothing. I'm by no means well-versed in her career, but that's all I have ever heard her sing...the disco dancing songs.
