Not bad... might have been better if it had been done with an acoustic guitar instead of the electric.

Has Journey ever done an entire concert with only Deen on lead vocals?

Love his performance of Mother Father.

I saw him do this on the Generations tour I believe. First set. Very solid. Fits his thin high voice well (and that's no knock, but he definitely has a thinner quality to his voice).

He did a good bit of one. He took over on lead vocals out front one night when Augeri's voice tanked on him. Not the whole show, but he sang quite a bit. His drum tech took over on drums.

drum tech only took over for the 2 ballads. The rest Deen was both drumming and singing. Probably did about 45% of the show lead.

Was there ever a night Perry did drums for Journey?

Here's Deen doing Patiently with Neal playing acoustic at the right times. He does an outstanding job! The vid then continues right into Where Were You which Deen also kicks ass on! Love how Jon and Ross simultaneously take a big step back from the riser at 4:29 as if something's going to explode or give way. Kinda funny!

Smitty's intro to Where Were You is fairly complicated and intricate in its time register given the barrage of triplets he infused. Deen always struggled with it and for some reason never could get it exactly right (beat for beat the way Smitty is able to.) At one point during the lead in to the part where the famous Smitty Triplet attack starts, you see Neal motioning to Deen to "go for it, whenever you're ready..." after which Deen takes a deep breath, counts backward from 4, and does exactly that. And by God, he nailed it perfectly! Not sure why Jon and Ross decide to take a step back at that point....it's almost as if they think things are going to start flying if Deen isn't able to pull it off.

In summer of 1980, Perry sat in on the drums for one song at the show I was at. It's been too long (and I did have a few brews) so I don't remember which one, but the crowd went wild.

Hmmm....interesting...have to get the old dvds out  . Never paid much attention as that song is not one of my favorites.

Speaking of the Gen tour -- that was supposed to be a highlight as it was their 30th Anniv tour....went right out after their HWOF acceptance. Wonder if there'll be as much hullabaloo for a 40th in 2015.
