Man, that Floyd is right on top of the pickup. Looks and sounds good though.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Neal explained why it works. Im all for making the man happy to continue to play and that he loves his instruments. :D

Sure was a lot of Neal bashing in the comments though. Does nobody have any class or decorum anymore?

I thought we were the only ones who enjoyed bashing Neal. Wow, there is a whole other segment out there who seem to despise the guy. And not one "Journey sucks!" comment either. Seems strictly related to Schon.

These prs are ugly ass guitars... And I'll say it again: Neal should only be playing hollow or semi hollow body guitars on his beyond the thunder or trial by fire stuff. For straight up AOR, it doesn't work. It's telling that in the two demo vids I've seen Neal do for these guitars, he doesn't kick on his classic lead sound once

It really surprises the shit out of me. Here we have the only continuous founding member left, of one of the greatest American rock bands in history, yet the guy gets no respect. Sure, we have seen Neal's personal life play out, but I respect the man for the musician he is, as well as the great legacy of music he has brought us. He continues to carry the torch and never calls in sick. I'm not quite sure if his latest relationship was even worth all the mockery. In the end things seem to be going well for the two of them and Neal appears to be happy lately.

I still love that signature les Paul he has a few years ago. I know some people think its blasphemous to deck an LP out with the sustainer, Floyd, push-pull switch etc., but I woulda killed to have one of those guitars. Too bad they went for ungodly prices

Trial By Fire definitely had its BTT moments. I don't know enough about guitars but now that you have explained it, I can better understand the sound connection I was hearing between the two albums.

Why won't Neal play any Gibson guitars anymore?

Steveo: it's because they took Neal's guitar ideas for his signature model and put them on other guitars without telling him. Gibson recently was mentioned as having the worst boss to work for, are difficult for dealers to work with and also got fined for illegally importing wood. I'm not quite understanding these PRS models, I though hollow body guitars are for lite jazz and feedback like crazy when used for rock?

If that is truly the case he should be suing their asses off. If he has proof then they need to be brought to justice. Neal might not want the drama and maybe just washed his hands of the whole mess and moved on as it appears he has.

This new guitar isn't completely hollow... there's a solid mahogany piece through the middle that eliminates the feedback problem.

I still doubt that thing sounds good with a lot of Neal style gain

It must be working because he's already using them live..

Used to be feedback came from stage monitors.. now House systems how have auto-notch filtering eq that kills feedback as it occurs.. so monitor induced feedback is pretty much dealt with

Since a lot of Neal's monitoring is in-ear... with a sidefill for taste... and he's already using the guitars, I'd venture they've already solved the amp based feedback issue.. if any..

I'm not talking feedback; more just talking about good ok'd fashioned tone. I don't see a semi hollow producing a nice Neal tone

His tone is so over-processed now... hollow, semi-hollow, solid... ain't really gonna make a difference..

This has suddenly become one of the best threads on here. I don't understand much of it as I don't know much about guitars. But it is interesting, informative and helpful! Thanks.

I've for years that his tone is waaay over processed now- almost unlistenable. The hollowbodies are ugly. Why not trick out a custom 24 like he had during the Arrival days and call it a "Schon" model? Plus, I thought that he was coming out with a reissue of the Schon models from the late 80's... what happened to that???

+1

Take the 24 as a starting point and make a good rock and roll guitar. Shit can the POS PRS semi-hollow body, go solid, cut the body back for more access to the upper fretts, plug in kick ass humbuckers, add Neal's sustainer, put the knobs where he likes them and sell them for $1200 all day long. Sign me up.

I expect we'll see the NS-14 and NS-15 semi hollows that look cool for $4500. If that's the case I'm out.

Seems weird to me how Neal used to run real rock and roll guitars and is now running towards jazz style machines? I don't get that.
